So perhaps you’ve been lusting after a bright or colourful sofa for a little while, but worried about how to make it work with your decor, and how best to accessorise it. Well if that’s been a concern, do check out my 5 easy ways to use a colourful sofa in your home, with lots of ideas, tips and inspirations. There is a vast array of bright, and colourful sofas on the market now, but many of us (me included) are still opting for something plain and neutral. I thought it would be fun to look at different ways of incorporating this colour into our homes.
5 Easy Ways to Use a Colourful Sofa:
#1 Dark and Moody
There’s been a real move towards to dark and moody decor in the last year or more, and it’s probably here to stay for a little while. Buying a darker sofa (as opposed to something more neutral) is a safer way to embrace the colourful sofa look, and an easy one to work into your decor. Why not go for it completely as in the image above, and add some dark walls and moody accessories. Injecting some metallics or a palette of sombre colours will help give this look atmosphere and extra impact.
#2 Neutral and Retro
A coloured leather sofa is a good way to build some quality, longevity and a little retro inspiration into your living space. I love how you can coordinate your walls to the colour, but still add in a little spice with an accent colour from opposite the colour wheel. Notice how the art, the rug, books and even the fruit pick out this accent and help bring the scheme together. This kind of look is very easy to achieve in your own home.
#3 Sleek and Contemporary
You know how I’m all for anything cool and contemporary, and the strong lines and bold colour of this modern sofa drew me in. Keeping the accessories and decor simple will allow you to achieve that minimal look, as well as letting this gorgeous example from Sofa Sofa take centre stage in your living room.
#4 Embrace the Colour
If you’re going to adopt a colourful sofa scheme into your home, then maybe you just need to go for it. I’ve long been a fan of Parris Wakefield print, and seeing them here adorning a bright seat shows how you can both complement and add extra vibrancy to your sofa. Admittedly it’s not a scheme that everyone will want to embrace, but for some, injecting extra colour is the perfect way to dress your sofa.
#5 Create a Colour Scheme
The easiest way to bring a colourful sofa into your home is to make it part of the colour scheme. As above, choose 2-3 colours and mix them with a ratio of 60:30:10. Use 60% of your main or primary colour, add 30% of a secondary colour for contrast, and then just 10% of an accent colour for the final touch. Following this designers trick is a very helpful way to achieve the correct balance and give you a bit of confidence in pulling together your scheme.
So, how do you feel about these easy ways to use a colourful sofa, do you think this is something you might like to do in the near future?
