10 EASY WAYS TO DECORATE A SMALL BEDROOM ON A BUDGET

Learn to Style:

Styling a small bedroom to make the most of the available space is a great trick and one that won’t cost anything except time. Often a smaller space can look more spacious when you use oversized pieces, so go large. Also use less smaller accessories, grouping larger examples in 3’s or 5’s. Keep clutter to a minimum, clearly defining the spaces and let the eye float to the edges of the room wherever you can.

RePurpose your Pieces:

Identify how you can DIY some wall art, new furniture or even curtains. Repurposing old pieces helps save money, and rewards your creative side and desire to inject your personality into your space.

Clever Storage:

Click through to find out more.Using the space above a bed to create bespoke storage is essential in a small bedroom. You could easily create this with cheap storage cubes, or even make some yourself. All you need is a little imagination, and some very accurate measurements.

Streamlined Colour Scheme:

If you want the room to have a feeling of space don’t let it get too busy with the colour scheme. Keep it simple. Paint, particularly whites can be relatively inexpensive and then all you need is a weekend and some elbow grease to change the look of the room. Add mirrors to help reflect the light too.

Clearly Defined Areas:

If you can, create clear areas for different purposes. Obviously the bed is for sleeping, storage does it’s thing, and the dressing table is for getting yourself ready. Don’t let the clutter spread into other areas, keep it all neat and tidy and section it off with storage units and dividers. It will help give the room purpose and cohesion.

Use All the Space:

If you can forego a headboard this is an easy way to make the most of the space, and if you’re handy, you can knock these up yourself. Alternatively, head off to Ikea and find something similar.

Customise Your Windows:

Now this might not be the cheapest option, but if you’ve saved your pennies elsewhere, you may be able to afford to splurge on just one piece. Decoshaker has a great selection of fun and quirky roller blinds which I absolutely adore. You even have the option to upload your own image to create a blind that’s really unique, and bespoke to you. There’s something very appealing about putting such a personal stamp on your bedroom.

Bespoke Wardrobes:

If you don’t have space for built-in closets, use a rail or better still, build a fake wall and create bespoke storage and hanging space behind it. You can see this in more detail over on Mad About the House too.

Multi-Purpose:

Be creative and let your pieces do several jobs. A headboard will double up as a shelf for your books and reading light, the top of the wardrobe is a spot for storage boxes and add hooks to the walls for clothes or jewellery. Thinking creatively is an easy and inexpensive way to decorate your small bedroom.

Great tips Jen! 🙂 I’ve recently decorated our guest bedroom which is rather small 8ft x 10ft and have just left the walls all the same colour (the house was rennovated before we bought it and all the walls were painted magnolia but we decided to leave the magnolia alone in the guest room) and it looks great! I originally wanted a feature wall in there but I couldn’t decide on a wallpaper and now it’s finished looking back I think leaving it all magnolia was the right decision.

As cities get more crowded, renting a place gets more expensive, oftentimes we have less space than we’re used to having, so we find it hard to store all our stuff. I like that you point out the importance of optimising your space using innovative furniture.

Jen great ideas I’m wondering if I should do an accent wall in a small bedroom that has fitted mirrored wardrobes?

Sounds like a good idea Shirley, that would definitely help lighten up the room.
