6 Top Tips for your Autumn Bedroom

autumn bedroom

Sadly, the nights are starting to draw in and with the advent of September it’s time to think about getting our home ready for Autumn. The new ranges are hitting the shops, it will start to get cooler and before you know it we’ll be putting on the central heating. It’s started me thinking about how to get the home ready for the cooler weather and thought I’d kick off my posts with this one on preparing your Autumn bedroom.

There are lots of things I think we do unconsciously, whilst preparing the home for Autumn, and maybe we wish we’d done some of them sooner. Here are some of my ideas for updating your bedroom after the summer months, and recreating that cosy haven we adore so much in the Autumn.

Window Warmers:

Many of us like to adorn our windows with light and airy treatments in the warmer summer months, but come the Autumn it’s lovely to shut out the cooler night air with warmer, thicker blinds and curtains. I’m loving the rustic charm of these plaid curtains from Dunelm, bang on trend in lovely autumnal shades.

Cosy Bedding:

The Autumn bedroom wouldn’t be complete without warmer duvets and new cosy bedding. Dust of the thicker duvet from its storage spot, send it to the dry cleaners if necessary, and prepare for colder nights. Add some gorgeous new bedding in autumn shades and you’re good to go. This feather print bedding from Next is ideal for the autumn bedroom.

New accessories:

Updating any room is a great excuse for adding a few new accessories from the new ranges hitting the shops now. An Autumn bedroom needs a few fresh candles and some new accessories that help tie together any new bedding or curtains. I love Matalan for some of their really up to date accessories like this neutral canvas print ideal for a rustic autumn bedroom.

Update Tired Furniture

If your bedroom needs a little more than just adding some new accessories and changing the bedset maybe think about updating some of your bedroom furniture for the coming season. Given the chance I would love one of these ottoman storage beds from furniture123.co.uk. I think they look great, but the storage they give is just fantastic!

Add some Autumn Colour:

We naturally associate autumn with rustic, warm colours like oranges and reds and used in the right amounts these colours can look glorious in your autumn bedroom. Keep the walls relatively simple but add a vibrant statement wall colour or wallpaper, then you can really go to town with your accessories. Alternatively keep the look pared down and simple like this shot from the new Marks and Spencer range, and then add one or two bright, warm accent colours.

Warmth Underfoot:

A warm and cosy Autumn bedroom wouldn’t be complete without a thick deep piled carpet or rug. If you can’t go all the way and replace the carpet, and let’s face it this doesn’t need to be done that often, then think about adding some extra colour and vibrancy with a new rug. I love this autumn leaves rug that I found at Carpetright which is just right for the coming season. The blues and browns are bang on trend for autumn and I love its simplicity and modern appeal.

So how will you be preparing your home for Autumn? Do you like any of these ideas for an Autumn Bedroom? Even though I’m loathe to say goodbye to the summer I’m feeling inspired now after hunting around all the new ranges from the High Street. Have you found anything that you love the look of for your home?
