Home Office Makeover: The Hunt for a Desk

I’ve been writing this blog for well over a year now, much more seriously in the last 6 months but I don’t have a regular writing space, desk area or blogger’s workspace, as I like to call it.

My current workspace is either the breakfast bar where the chairs give me a bad back, the dining table were the chairs are too slippery so I also get a bad back, or the sofa, which really isn’t good for lots of reasons. So, as I’m now writing much more frequently I decided it was time to sort myself a decent workspace.

I love this post I wrote a few months ago on How to Create the Perfect Home Office, and although I don’t have a huge amount of space, I do think I can create a space that’s practical, useful and stylish. Argos have very kindly offered to collaborate with me on this makeover so I’ll be looking at their range and creating the workspace with their help.

The first thing to select has to be the desk really. I think if I can choose the right desk or table then the rest should fall into place. I don’t necessarily need it to be large, I don’t need lots of storage space, although that’s always a bonus but I do want something that will fit the into the bedroom where I’m going to be creating my desk area, and something that has a certain design edge to it.

The desk needs to be simple essentially. Modern and contemporary, maybe with a mid century feel if possible but definitely not too fussy. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a ‘desk’ either. It can be a dressing table that could be multi functional; a dressing table in the mornings and a desk space during the daytime.

After browsing the Argos website and looking through the selection, I’ve shown a few here that I quite like. The rest of the room has simple oak furniture so I thought maybe an oak dressing table or desk would complete the look and not seem out of place. The black gloss look would compliment the décor too and I like the storage options available.  I’m still looking; something in white would be my ideal choice to keep it fresh and bright so I’ll keep hunting.

In the next post I’m going to be putting together my moodboard and showing you the space where I’ll be creating my desk area.  The moodboard will help focus my mind and show me how the items I’m going to choose from Argos will look together, so do pop back later this week to see how that looks.
