The Love Chic Living Blogger’s Workspace Project is brought to you in association with Argos.
For the past few months I’ve been writing and blogging full time and during that time I’ve been looking at creating my own workspace or home office.
Unfortunately I don’t have a spare room at home from where I can work, but I do have enough space in the main bedroom upstairs to create a working corner with a desk. In conjunction with Argos, I’ve been putting together some ideas for the kind of thing I’d like to create.
The room is quite large and decorated in tones of teals with black. It’s quite dramatic and as you won’t be surprised to learn has a wall of quite bold wallpaper. We’ve lived with it like this for some years but don’t want to do a complete makeover just yet but I feel like updating it. Creating my workspace is the ideal time to do this.
This is the corner of the room where I’m planning to put the space to better use. As you can see it’s not really well used currently.
The workspace need to be functional yet it needs to work with the rest of the room. I don’t want to feel like I’m sat in clutter and I don’t want the desk and associated bits and bobs to take over the room either. So I’m thinking it needs to be well organised and compact, and not feel too much like a desk, but maybe more like a dressing table if necessary.
I’m going to need:
- Good lighting
- Comfortable chair
- Clutter free desktop with good storage
- A noticeboard for reminders
As I’m taking the opportunity to lift the current décor I’m also going to throw in some extra cushions and lighting, along with a new accent colour.
There is a huge selection of furniture at Argos and it has taken me some time to look through and choose my items. I’ve been really impressed with the choice, particularly as there are lots of brands like Habitat and Schrieber to choose from too.
In order to visualise how the final result will look I started to create a moodboard as I was selecting the items. This gave me a good idea on how the look would hang together and if it would all work. I love making moodboards on Polyvore and I’m really pleased with how this one showed me the a glimpse into the future.
The Love Chic Living Home Office Moodboard
Lighting has been really important for the room and so as well as having good lighting at the desk I’ve updated the bedside table lamps too. There is a huge range of lamps at Argos which really impressed me and I was pleasantly surprised at how stylish and modern much of it is.
To compliment the black and teal colour scheme already in the room I’ve decided to add some yellow to lift and brighten the room. I’ll only be using it in accessories like cushions and lamps but this should help give it a fresh, new feel.
I want to try and keep the look modern, uncluttered and a little mid-century if I can. I wasn’t sure if I could achieve this at Argos, but once again I was really impressed. With brands like Habitat and Schreiber on offer it’s so easy to find something suitable, for pretty much any taste. The desk I’ve chosen is actually a dressing table in oak which will look great with the rest of the oak bedroom furniture we have. The chair is from Habitat at Argos and gives the whole area a more contemporary feel. The lighting is a mixture from both Habitat and Argos and I’m thrilled with the noticeboard from Graham and Brown at Argos.
Next week once I’ve physically done the makeover and created my blogger’s workspace I’ll be back to show you the finished result. I’m sure there will be a few extra finishing touches added to the scheme but I can’t wait to pull it altogether and see how it works for me. It’s going to make such a difference to my working life!
