Review: Jute Flatweave Runner from All Floors Express

I have a long, narrow hallway in our Victorian semi, and have tried a lot of different runners on the floor.

Some have been more successful than others, but because of the proximity to the front door and the amount of traffic from living room to rest of the house, they become tatty, tired and pretty much unusable very quickly.

I’ve had a blue and white striped cotton rug (lasted a year and needed lots of cleaning) and black and white patterned wool runner (never have a black rug unless you have a strong connection with your vacuum) and a pale beige cotton edged coir rug (far too pale and showed way too much dirt). So, it was time to try something new.

Bring in this handmade Jute Flatweave runner from All Floors Express. Later this year, the whole hallway is getting a makeover so I wanted to review something neutral that would work with a change in decor. There’s not a lot of product detail on the website, but there are some very clear close-up images, so I could get a good sense of the density of this rug. It’s important that it’s hard wearing yet attractive to deal with the amount of abuse it will get.

And here it is, in situ (and please don’t look too closely at the tatty decor)

Jute runner review from All Floor Express

jute runner reviewThe runner is sized at 68cms x 253 cms so a perfect size for a hallway runner, and I think you can see from these photos that it’s very thick and robust. The colours in reality are more yellow based and so it some lights it does look warm and rich, which I wasn’t expecting. Often you find these kind of products are quite dull and cool, but this one does have a real glow about it.

Let me show you a close up of the corner so you can see how thick it is.

Jute runner close upI’m so pleased with this one. It’s not as expensive as some of the wool rugs I’ve tried and is listed on the All Floors Express website at £69.99, but it seems way more sturdy and hard wearing. There are no cleaning instructions with it, but I’m thinking a vacuum and sponge off any dirty marks will work. I think the paler stripes will show marks, but the overall effect of the runner means you won’t notice them.

Overall, a very good buy if you want to invest. The price is reasonable and you’re getting a very good, quality product so great value too. If you’re interested, do have a little browse of the website as this is available in different shades.

And let me know if you buy one, I’d love to see it in your home too.

Thanks to All Floors Express for gifting the rug, the opinions and comments are honest and genuine.
