The other weekend, Miss E and I had a lovely morning at our local John Lewis Nottingham store whilst discovering the delights of the new Alice Temperley range due to hit the shop floor this week. The exciting thing about the Somerset by Alice Temperley range this season is that it includes a lovely little girls selection too.
Along with Penny and Miss L, Amanda with both Miss and Miss N, and Lucy with Littlelish we shared a wonderful mum and daughter bonding morning devouring a delightful breakfast and trying on some of our favourite pieces. Now 9, Miss E is very much into fashion and trying on clothes, a big change from just a year ago really, so she was very excited to be attending her first big girl blogging event.
The Somerset by Alice Temperley children’s range consists of 15 key pieces from blouses, printed skirts and party dresses through to arran knit jumpers and winter coats, with several of the pieces reminiscent of last season’s Temperley range for adults. I think it was this that we enjoyed so much. Many of the items were available in both grown up and children’s sizes, which was great fun when trying them on.
Alice Temperley, MBE says, “I am excited to be branching into girlswear. My mother and grandmother always made really beautiful dresses for me whilst I was growing up -pieces that I still treasure today. Clothes hold memories and I hope these will do the same for little girls. The collection consists of easy, playful clothes to have fun in.”
In this image above Miss E is wearing the acorn skirt (£20 – very reasonable) whilst Penny wears the grown up dress version. This really is a lovely dress which many of us tried on. Everyone agreed it was very versatile and suited us all.
The collection aims to be accessible and functional and I think it achieves that really well. The designer pieces are really well priced and are, of course exquisitely designed and made.
Miss E instantly loved the coats and I must agree she was right to.
This beautiful wool trench coat is just gorgeous and Miss E loved it. At £65 we thought this a good price for that designer tag, including the leather belt and detailing on both the collar and cuffs.
We also fell in love with this, the Tweed Coat (£60) which was beautiful on many of the children. Embellished with bright fuschia buttons, a faux fur collar and cerise lining, this was a favourite.
I have to say my favourite outfit for Miss E (well and me to be honest!) is this gorgeous party dress and military gold button jacket.
Both of these items echo previous adult designs from last season with the best selling black spot dress (£40) and the black cropped Military jacket with gold button details (£45). The jacket looked stunning on the adults too!
The womenswear was gorgeous of course and I couldn’t resist a little trying on session myself. I just love this leather skirt and silk blouse combo (oh hello isn’t it my birthday soon!) and of course no outfit would be complete without some killer heels and a little coloured clutch.
And of course to round off the morning there had to be a group shot with the children all wearing a piece from the Somerset collection!
The Somerset by Alice Temperley range is beautiful. As intended the pieces are classc and on trend, but won’t date. The prices were reasonable too and only marginally higher than general high street childrenswear and for a designer item, well that’s really quite good.
The collection is available in all full line John Lewis shops and online at www.johnlewis.com right now. Prices start from £20 for the acorn printed skirt.
Thank you to John Lewis in Nottingham and the wonderful Lucy Knight for inviting us for breakfast and the trying on session. We had a blast.
