How to Choose a New Bed: Top Tips

Buying a new bed is quite an investment so it’s definitely something that needs careful consideration and thought before making your purchase. Once you’ve decided you need a new bed you may need some help. Here are my Top Tips to help you choose the right bed for you and your home.

Find a good shop

Look around and find a store that sells high quality beds in the first place. This is a product that you are going to use for many years and it’s worth saving up and buying the best that you can afford. Going to a good quality shop with a good reputation will serve you well in your choice of bed. Look out for adverts in magazines and on the television to give you an idea of where you might like to visit and check out if you have a local branch. Most big department stores stock beds and mattresses of many, differing brands so if you can get yourself to one of those they are a good starting point.

Try before you buy

I know it seems really silly at the time but you absolutely have to go and lie down on the beds and test them out. If you’re buying a double or king size for you and your partner you should both go and try them. Lie on as many different types as you can side by side and see how they feel. Ask for advice from the sales assistant, see if they know their stuff and if you feel confident in their sales patter. Getting the right type of mattress, as we all know, is one of the best ways to cure a bad nights’ sleep, particularly if you suffer with a bad back as I do.

Style and Size

Think about where you’re new bed is going to go in the bedroom. Will it remain in the same spot or are you planning a move around. Make sure you’ve measured up beforehand. What about the style of your base? Will you go for an all singing all dancing base with tv (oh how I’d love one of those!) or maybe you’d like the more traditional divan style with extra storage. I’m particularly loving the beds where the mattress rises to give access to the storage in the base. What a great idea. The main thing here is to do your research before going out to buy that new bed and have a fair idea in advance, of what you would like.

Dressing your bed

Once you’ve chosen your new bed are you going to need new bedding? Have you upgraded to a King Size perhaps? Don’t forget to factor this all into the budget. New duvets, pillows and bedding can add up and really affect your budget so give it consideration. How about treating yourselves to a his and hers duvet, warm for her, cooler for him. This is a great opportunity to throw out all your old bedding and start afresh. Something we should all probably do more frequently to avoid those nasty bed bugs! Whatever you decide to buy, make sure you love it and it fits with the style of your room.

So, buying a new bed needn’t be a daunting task. Do your research, shop around and choose wisely and carefully. The right bed will set you well on your way to a good sleep night after night.

Useful tips. I never gave much thought to our bed until I made the mistake of buying a cheap one. It was bought in the middle of forking out lots of money when we were finishing the house. I was trying to cut corners. After a few month we could take no more and treated ourselves to a new one.

We had a very old one too that was causing me all sorts of back trouble. We saved up and splashed out on a good mattress and it was sooo worth the money.
