5 Steps to a More Productive Home for you and your family
Improving your home to be a space that works well for you and your family doesn’t have be difficult. Taking steps to renovate, refurbish or redecorate is necessary when we realise our home is no longer serving us.
The good news is that if aren’t sure where to start, we can help. Having updated my own home many times in the last 20 years as the family has grown, I have some key ideas that can make a BIG difference to the effectiveness of the space in which you live.
A Loft Conversion

The first thing that we’re going to talk about is a loft conversion. Perhaps you have a loft that you do not use, and therefore can consider turning it into more living space for your house. If you need an extra bedroom then consider it for this purpose, or you might consider an alternative use for it such as a game room, a yoga studio, a breathing room or whatever your family requires the space to be. The point is, you get a little more space that you can use for whatever you want so that you don’t have to feel as though you’re all constantly on top of each other.
Speak to a company that specialises in loft conversions and see what they have to say. They’re going to have to assess the space before they can let you know how to proceed.
Clear Out Your Garage

It’s also a good idea to take the time to clear out your garage. Getting rid of years of clutter can be truly cathartic. It’s a good idea to put aside some time over a weekend and get this done. Go through all of the items, decide what you want to keep, what you don’t want to keep, and what doesn’t have a place in your home anymore.
Once you have done this, you can use your garage for a whole host of purposes. Perhaps you have decided to sell your car and invest in a new one so you want to use the garage for its intended purpose. If not this, then you can use it as an extension of your home if you want to, turning it into something incredible over time.
Fix Anything That’s Broken

Take your time going through the house identifying what is broken and needs fixing.
I once did this exercise and was astounded at what I found. It’s amazing how you become used to things not working; we just don’t see them after a while.
Fixing and decluttering might actually end up being for the best as you can then start working your way through all of the things on the list, getting them all sorted.
For example any problems with the roof, the windows, the doors etc need to be sorted as a priority as they can create a vulnerability in the home. There are so many things that might need repairing, so do ensure that you’re keeping on top of them as best you can going forward.
Add An Office Space

If you are someone who works from home like me, then adding an office space is a must if you have a spare room. Take your time painting the walls a productive colour such as blue as colour association says this represents calm and intelligence, both of which you’re going to need for work. It makes it easier to work if you can separate work and your home, even though you’re working at home.
Trust us when we say that you will find your productivity improving once you have a proper desk, a proper chair, and somewhere that is purely for you to work. If you have a large family, it might even be worth the extra money to look into soundproofing, just so that you can concentrate.
Work On The Garden

How much time do you spend in the garden? If the answer is not a lot, let us change the question. How much time would you spend in the garden if you enjoyed the space?
It doesn’t have to be if you’re prepared to roll up your sleeves and get to work. Cut the grass, pull out the weeds, trim bushes and trees if you have them, and generally do what you can to create a calm and attractive space.
Once you’ve nailed the basics, you can then look at things like adding a patio and a water feature, which really enhance any garden and make spending time out there much more enjoyable.
We hope that you have found this article helpful, and feel inspired to work on areas of the home and garden that can drastically improve the effectiveness of your home in years to come.
