Simplify Your Routine With Summer Tech Home Essentials

In collaboration with very.co.uk

With temperatures set to soar this weekend, I’m taking some time to think how to ensure I’m feeling my best during the heatwave and the summer beyond. If you need some inspiration for your own home and wellbeing, keep reading.

I’m a huge fan of using tech in the home to improve and simplify our lifestyles so these are some of the tech essentials I’ve been using recently. All of these products are designed to make your mornings, afternoons and evenings easier and more enjoyable.

Wake Up Refreshed with the Lumie Bodyclock 100

I’ve used a Lumie Bodyclock for years and swear by them. All my family have one by their bedside, and honestly there’s no better way to wake up.

Set the timer and the light gently wakes you just as natural sunlight would. You wake up naturally, stirring calmly, coming to in the most natural way possible.

It’s scientifically proven to improve your mood, particularly in Winter if you suffer from SAD. No more shrieking alarms frightening you awake – you’re naturally lifted from your sleep and feel much more refreshed through the day as a result.

However, a refreshed morning for me begins the night before when I use the Lumie clock on a 30 minute wind down time to gently increase my natural melatonin and help me drift to sleep. I sometimes use this in the middle of the night too when I wake (if you’re perimenopausal and struggle with 3am wake-ups, you’ll know what I mean!).

Habit Stacking with the Philips Sonicare Electric Toothbrush

I trained as an ICF Professional Coach earlier in the year and have read some great books as part of my training. One is Atomic Habits by James Clear. I struggle to bring new tasks or habits into my usual routine sometimes but the theory of habit stacking has helped me enormously.

Simply add on new tasks, or ones you forget or find difficult onto something you already do.

What does this have to do with brushing my teeth?

Well a good morning routine, as we know sets us up for the day.

So performing a routine task like teeth brushing, is a great time to habit stack. I’m currently trying to improve balance and strength after taking up ballet a few months ago, so the 2 minutes with my electric toothbrush is a great time to stack on the habit of doing my balance exercises. One minute on each leg and I’m done!

Freshen the Room with Russell Hobbs Compact Dehumidifier and Air Purifier

Then as I leave the bedroom to set out for my day, I’m switching on the Russell Hobbs Compact Air Purifier to capture dust, pollen and allergens ensuring the space is clean and fresh for our return later. My husband is asthmatic and we have a cat so this makes a huge difference to his reactions.

It’s also easily portable and doubles up as a dehumidifier for reducing humidity and minimising the physical signs of damp and condensation – in the bathroom after the teens have showered for example.

I also love the way it looks. So many of these gadgets are perfunctory and lack style – or jar with the surroundings. That’s not the case here.

Stay Cool with the Shark FlexBreeze High-Velocity Hybrid Fan

Let’s be honest, as a midlife menopausal woman, fans are a year round essential, not just in the summer. I’ve been testing out this Shark FlexBreeze for the last few weeks and absolutely love it. It’s the quietest fan I’ve EVER tried (we have a Dyson usually).

I love the look of it too; the style and design. It’s easy to port around and can be used indoors and outdoors. It’s rechargeable and the top section removes for flexibility of use.

My garden office is a little sauna in the summer. It’s so well insulated it retains the heat phenomenally well, so a fan is a must.

The piece de resistance has to be the misting attachment. Genius! Attach the misting gadget to your hose and experience the gentle cooling effect of a fine mist sprayed via the fan. It has to be the perfect idea for a hot, muggy day and I’ll be using it constantly throughout the summer months to stay cool.

Relax with a Podcast and Portable Speaker

Relaxing with music isn’t always my things but I LOVE a good podcast, particularly around business, health and midlife women. So I love to step outside my garden office and sit with a cool drink listening to a latest episode; it’s my favourite way to relax.

I’ve got the JBLGO 4 Compact Portable Speaker for this, it’s super small but packs a big acoustic punch so I’m happy!

As you’d imagine it has Bluetooth connectivity, is rechargeable with 7 hour playtime and has a really solid base sound. I’m a fan.

So that’s my daytime summer tech routine with some fabulous gadgets that make life easier, and allow me to capture small glimmer moments throughout the day. My mind and body is better for it.

How are you going to upgrade your home with tech that improves your lifestyle this summer?
