7 Spring Home Reset & Cleaning Tips in 2026

In collaboration with very.co.uk

The time comes when our homes need a little attention following the winter season. You’ve packed away the Christmas decorations and feel the house is a little jaded. It’s time to start an early Spring home reset.

The New Year has brought new intentions and a flurry of ideas on how to improve your home, so it’s time to get started. These are some of my most favourite ways to give my home a new lease of life as Spring is around the corner.

The Essential Steam Cleaning Tips

We have 4 adults living in our home, working and studying here full time, so the floors take a little battering. I love to give them a deep steam clean.

This floor gets quite grubby and shows the dirt no matter how often it’s washed. It runs through the kitchen into this dining roo area and is a fabulous feature but periodically needs extra attention.

This is the Vax Steam Fresh Total Home Steam Cleaner from very.co.uk which I’m using to tackle the dirtiest elements of these tiles. I like that it steams the dirtiest of areas in the fastest of times, leaves a pleasant aroma and dries quickly too – imperative with a family and pets! It also comes with brushes that clean the oven, hob and even the tile grout in the bathroom – so the whole house can be deep cleaned for a perfect Spring Reset.

The Micro Decluttering Trend

If you find decluttering a little overwhelming, or simply don’t have much time, adopting a micro decluttering approach is perfect. Simply spend 5-15 minutes per day on a decluttering hot spot – the kitchen cupboards for example – and do a few small tasks then stop. Start again the following day.

What you’ll find is your commitment in small chunks soon builds to big achievements and you’ll finish a task rather than give up on it.

I love to do this with our winter clutter – coats, scarfs, shoes and the bits that build up in our most used space, the Dining Room. We’ve recently adopted this approach and tackled small tasks each Sunday and we’re starting to see a BIG improvement.

Spring Decorating and DIY

As the weather starts to improve around early Spring it’s the ideal time for some DIY or decorating projects.

We’ve already started planning what we’ll do next after revamping 2 of the bedrooms last year. The room in the shot above – this is our dining room / den space, desperately needs a repaint and reorganisation.

With some new shelving from very.co.uk and some planned olive green paint, I’m hoping to give it a new lease of life and a completely new look. It’s a long overdue project that I feel inspired to tackle now we’re through the majority of winter weather.

Organising Kid’s Toys

A family home usually has one ongoing job and that’s keeping on top of the kids’ toys and possessions. When our girls were younger it seemed like a never ending task and one that needed constant attention. Good storage is imperative – and has to adapt as the kids get older – so find a good kids storage unit from very.co.uk that stands the test of time.

I’m a huge fan of hidden or multi purpose storage like the under the bed boxes above, that make use of the space in the most creative of ways.

The Big Loft Sort Out

If you’re like us, have lived in your home for many years, you may have accumulated a lot of belongings that are hard to part with. We did a big loft conversion a decade ago which meant consolidating our storage areas into 2 smaller ones – and lessening the amount of ‘stuff’ we hold on to.

Over the years that has mounted up again, to the point where the larger loft space is full. So we’ve begun the Big Loft Sort Out Challenge and I urge you to do the same as you reset your home for Spring.

Each weekend we bring 2-3 boxes down out of the loft and give them a sort. I guarantee you’ll be surprised at what you find! So far we’ve done about 10 boxes reducing them to 3. There were so many things we’d forgotten we stored; so many possessions we no longer needed. Yes, we are being quite ruthless because honestly, we don’t need to keep this much in storage – it feels uncomfortable to be hanging on to so many belongings we never even look at.

The Shelf Styling Challenge

I find my mind is clearer when the home is decluttered I have ADHD and a very busy mind so need my surroundings to feel calm and peaceful.

Every season I spend an afternoon decluttering and rearranging the shelving in both the living and dining room spaces. I strip them back, collect all the pieces I like to display – and start again. Usually I whittle out pieces that no longer bring me joy, or simply create new displays from old items to help the shelves feel fresh and inspiring. Give it a go!

Spring Cleaning Family Chores

No matter what age your children are, they can take part in family chores around the home. Make them age appropriate of course, but dividing up the tasks like this, and starting at a young age, help them feel responsible for their rooms and their home. Absolutely it gets harder as they hit the teenage years, and nagging isn’t going to get you anywhere, but when you’re all adults sharing a home together, everyone needs to pitch in.

I have these essential chore lists and everyone takes responsibility for certain jobs – and I hope takes pride in their surroundings and feels satisfied from being part of the family team.
