Styling The Overlooked Details In Your Bedroom Decor

Featured Partner Post

When you’re redecorating your bedroom, it’s easy to focus your attention on the things you notice first: the wall colours, the fabrics, the furniture and the accessories on it. Ultimately, these will constitute your perfect scheme, from an earthy-feel bedroom to an industrial vibe sleeping nook.

But if you are going to create an immersive and complete decor, you want to start looking at the parts that stand out. You’ve got the great lines, but the decor still feels a little off? This may be down to elements that are typically overlooked in a decoration project: the plug sockets, the radiator, the lightbulbs, the switches, etc.

Here are a few tips to help you bring your decor together.

Turn the radiator into a matching design feature

The typical British home has standard white radiators, and while those work fine, they don’t do your decor any favours. They draw the eye to all the wrong things.

A nice fix is to consider switching your standard radiator for an upgraded cast iron radiators. Indeed, it’s an easy way to bring character and warmth to the space. Heritage style looks great alongside natural textures like wood and stone, for example. Deep graphite iron can be the ideal pendant to a modern and minimalist setting. But that’s not all, as you can get radiators with detailing in various styles to match a more baroque interior feel, for instance.

So this is definitely a switch worth considering if you want to elevate your style.

Sockets and switches need to change

Nothing can ruin a lovely interior room decor faster than a row of shiny, white plastic sockets. On the one hand, they are functional. But they can look harsh compared to your soft finishes.

What are your options? You can swap your faceplates for some new ones with a bit more personality. Brushed brass, bronze and matte black are popular finishes that can completely change the look of your room. They are ideal with wooden furniture and terracotta tones, but they also complete an industrial interior and even a more minimalist style.

Besides, if you are unsure about removing your sockets, you can also experiment with clip-on surrounds or paintable covers that can blend in with the rest of your wall.

The same principle applies to light switches, as nothing is going to ruin your interior vibe faster than a white plastic switch.

Switch your lightbulbs

Lighting is key when it comes to creating the right atmosphere. If you’ve ever put in a bright light bulb in a cosy room, such as the lounge or the bedroom, you’ve probably noticed the room become visibly colder. You’re not imagining things. Light can make all the difference. So, in cosy and relaxing settings that do not require perfect visibility, it’s often a good idea to switch to warmer and softer tones. Ideally, you want to look for bulbs around 2200K to 2700K (Kelvin scale).

These will have a nice amber-tinted style and will give a gentle glow that complements natural materials.

Alternatively, dimmable lightbulbs are another great choice, as you can adjust them throughout the day.

Ultimately, these little touches can help make your decor go further and create a more cohesive impression.
