Welcome to #BlueMonday, officially the dreariest, most miserable day of the year. Apparently.
It’s weeks since the fun of Christmas and New Year, bills have come in, we’re struggling with our New Year resolutions and the weather is grim. Not a lot to feel happy about eh?
Yesterday I went into London to do another QVC show and it was strange leaving the family on a Sunday and going off to ‘work’. Many people do it, but it’s a little bit different for me. It was great fun though, with lovely people talking about homes and interiors, a topic that obviously I love. On the train journey home, I thought long and hard about Blue Monday, does it really need to be so blue? Surely it’s just a state of mind?
Anyway, no matter how you feel about today, I thought I’d source a few of my favourite good value, sale items to inspire you. Even if you’re not spending anything at the moment, a little bit of window shopping might help to cheer up this dreary day.
Rug – Urban Outfitters:
I do love Urban Outfitters for their quirky home accessories, and have one of their rugs in my living room currently. This cute little 2×3 metre rag rug is now in their sale for just £15. Ideal for a little spot in front of the fireplace or at the edge of the bed.
Bedding – made.com
Brighten up your bedroom with some new bedding in a bright blue, nothing dull and dreary about this one. On sale at made.com for just £25 on the King size, and £19 on the double. Doesn’t this colour have a very inspiring, coastal feel to it? Perfect for this time of year.
Vase – Marks and Spencer
Sometimes it’s the little touches that make all the difference to our home. Take this lovely smoked faceted vase from Marks and Spencer which was originally £29.50 and is now just £8.99 in the sale today. Perfect for a mantlepiece, a table or top of a chest of drawers. Fill with your favourite blooms or a silk flower to brighten the place on this gloomiest of days. Quite a bargain, I might be tempted myself.
So I urge you not to feel downhearted on this #BlueMonday. Cheer yourself up a little. Or why not take a inspiration from Celebrity Cruises. They’ve had a pop up Lawn Club at Waterloo station this morning trying to cheer people up. Butlers have been delighting passers by with free refreshments and a helping hand to lighten the load on this dreary day. What a lovely idea!
Whatever you do today, I do hope the day isn’t too Blue for you.
