7 Easy Ways to Make Your Home Feel Cosy this Autumn

As the nights draw in and Christmas is on the horizon, we all enjoy making our homes feel more cosy. From burning the fire, to lighting the candles, we hunker down and embrace the darker evenings, the longer nights and the feeling of togetherness created in our homes.

Whether we love gathering to watch Celebrity Traitors, playing board games with the kids, or having friends round to enjoy a hearty meal, it’s a time when we naturally stay indoors more and look for a warm, inviting space in which to feel comfortable.

There are lots of simple ways to make our homes feel more cosy this Autumn, and that’s why, in collaboration with very.co.uk, I’ve created this list of 7 easy changes you can make to your home, and your habits as you embrace the autumnal season.

1. Autumn Scented Candles

There’s nothing like a warm, inviting fragrance all bundled in a gorgeous candle at this time of year. You can use scented tealights for a lighter intensity or larger multi wick candles for an all embracing more vibrant scent. I’m a huge fan of candles, and have them burning every evening for the visual joy andfragrant atmosphere.

2. Slow Cooker Autumn Recipes

Slow cookers are the perfect way to create hearty, wholesome, autumn friendly meals that don’t have to cost much either. I’ve used this Morphy Richards slow cooker to create a vegetarian tagine with courgettes and butternut squash grown by my daughter in the garden this year, alongside a jar of chickpeas and some herbs and spices. So simple yet so delicious.

3. Cosy Autumnal Pyjamas

No matter your age, there’s something so relaxing about unwinding in some Chelsea Peers pyjamas from very.co.uk. I have several pairs actually and love their softness and warmth. As someone who adores the texture of brushed fabrics, I turn to these every evening when I’m done with work and the tv is on to create that cosy autumn vibe.

4. Autumn Home Accessories

Let’s discuss how simple it is to add some earthy home decor accessories to any room to give it a new seasonal lift. You can even forage for this on your autumn walks. Leaves, twigs, berries and more all make wonderful autumnal arrangements on a coffee table or fireplace to enhance your current decor. You don’t need a huge makeover to bring some autumn glow into your home at this time of year.

Then add a few neutral, tonal cushions and a darker, furry throw and the room is set for an evening of warmth and cosiness.

5. Cosy Living Room Home Decor

Like most families we tend to collect in the living room on an autumn evening, light our fire and the candles, and switch on a box set. If budget allows, why not add a few autumn focused accessories like toadstools, mushroom and candles (as we’ve already mentioned). Foraged pine cones can also add an autumnal, natural feel to the decor in a living room.

If budget is easier, switch up the curtains to a richer, heavier weighted pair. Increase the lamps and lighting in the room to give it a warmer glow and if you’re lucky enough to grow pumpkins (yes we have 2 this year!) why not add them to the decor too.

6. Autumnal Colour Palette

This living room is a dark blue, the dining room a pink and the kitchen a dark grey but they can all look more autumnal when you embrace the autumn colour palette. Think earthy tones like browns, greens, oranges, rich berries and yellows. Keep the hues warm not cool and you can’t really go wrong. It’s always useful to take inspiration from the fashion world and we’re seeing a big trend towards rich browns and berries this season, so encapsulate this into your home.

7. Autumnal Textures and Patterns

To stop the autumn look feeling too flat add lots of texture. From fur, to fluffy, to fleecy, these all add layers of warmth to the eye and the touch, embracing everything rich about the changing autumn season. And they’re super easy to incorporate into most rooms in the home.

What would you do to add an Autumn feel to your home this year?
