For the past few months I’ve been trialling a new gift subscription service from Not Another Bill.
The idea is that you get beautiful, stylish gifts delivered through your letterbox, one a month, instead of a ghastly, unwanted bill.
It’s a lovely premise and I was intrigued to try it out, to see if it could deliver items I really liked. I think the issue with these kinds of setups is that they don’t always tailor the gift box to the individual, so you end up spending your money on items you don’t really want or need.
So how does it work?
Well you sign up, or a friend signs up for you and gifts you the subscription (great idea I think) to either a monthly gift for as long as you’d like (£24pm), 3 months (£23pm) 6 (£22pm) or 12 (£19pm) month’s subscription and then complete the preferences section on the website.
This is the bit I was most intrigued with. Could they really get this right?
Firstly you share some basics like your gender, age range and name. Next you complete your preferences stating what kinds of gifts you’d like to receive. You can choose from categories like Ladies, For the Wall, Apothecary, Stationery, Jewellery, For Your Desk, Art and many more. Alternatively, you can leave it up to fate and let them choose your gift for you. You can say if there are type of products you’d prefer not to receive, like fur or leather of course; a thoughtful touch.
And if you get something you’re not happy with, you can exchange it. I did like this feature.
So I went for homewares obviously, and to be honest I can’t quite remember what else I chose! But obviously I chose correctly because all 3 gifts were ok. The first two in particular were spot on.
First up was Hay chopping board, seen above in the image, a stylish addition to my kitchen. It’s a reclaimed teak wood chopping board from Netherlands based design brand HK Living. I’ve used it mainly as a serving plank for breads, olives and snacks, and it stands proudly in the corner on my kitchen on display.
The following month I received the stunning Da Terra Linen Table Runner. Oh I just adore this piece and expect to see it popping up in images on the blog in the coming months.
DaTerra is a portuguese brand discovered by Not Another Bill, who instantly fell in love with this 100% linen runner and it’s neon edging. I don’t blame them, I feel exactly the same. It’s so versatile and adds a beautiful summery feeling to any table.
And then finally, for my 3rd month I received the SEE Concept Sunglasses. From Paris brand See Concept, these retro style sunglasses have 100% protection lenses. If I’m honest, they’re my least favourite of the gifts, simply because they don’t fit or suit me very well. I did consider changing them, but my eldest daughter has spotted them and they do look great on her so we’ll keep them.
I think maybe this type of product is a tricky one to send out – they’re possibly not going to be a good fit for many people but I guess they can tell from how many returns or comments they receive.
Ultimately though, it doesn’t put me off. I love the way Not Another Bill is sourcing individual and beautifully designed, not so well known pieces that make this gifting service something a little different.
I’m definitely impressed and would go back to them for gifts, particularly anniversary and birthday subscriptions. It’s so hard to find something a little different but I think they’ve really managed it.
Has anyone else tried this service yet?
Disclosure: I was gifted the products to enable the review – thank you for supporting the brands that make the blog possible.
