We’ve been in need of some new window treatments for a while now so when the opportunity came up to review a blind from the selection at Direct Blinds I was keen to give them a go. Miss E, my eldest daughter has the bigger bedroom of the two girls and although the room is recently updated we hadn’t tackled the window and it desperately needed some attention.
Here’s what the window looked like before we started the makeover:
As we live in a Victorian house the windows are quite large and tall so getting decent curtains to fit is quite tricky and can be expensive. These were from Next originally and were great, warm and practical, but they’re now faded from the sun, and the curtain pole is about to fall out of the wall from a 9 year old frequently hanging on the material. You can also see from the pictures that they are quite bulky and don’t fit well at the side of the desk. And to be honest they take quite a lot of light from the room.
So the aim is to make a neater, more compact window treatment like a roman blind. Something that looks stylish and is in keeping with her taste and the decor of the room, that she can manage to work easily, and that allows much more natural light into the space.
Direct Blinds are an online only store providing a big range of blinds and window treatments made in their own factories in Yorkshire, and they guarantee next day delivery too! For our new window treatment I decided on a roman blind from their patterned collection of fabrics in Lulu Powder Blue Stripes. The range is extensive and took a while to choose from but this pattern was a lovely, modern fit for the room:
Ordering from the website is really easy. Simply input your measurements, (and there are instructions on how and where to measure) your chosen fabric, blind type and which side you would like the cord to sit and that’s it. The price is calculated immediately so you know if your choice is within budget. Easy!
Our blind arrived in perfect condition, very well packaged, looking great. It looked good on the screen but somehow was much better in reality.
All of the fittings were included and it was very easy to put up. Half an hour later and the job was done. What do you think of the difference?
Doesn’t it look so much better?
It’s neat, unfussy and allows so much more light into the room, making it seem more spacious. It really is amazing what one little change like this can do to a room; I can’t stop going in there to take it in.
These other images will give you a better idea of the quality of the finish and the look of the fabric:
And then just to show you how the measurements are spot on this is how it looks when it’s fully down – a perfect fit!
I have to say I’m really impressed. The blind is great quality, well made and fits brilliantly well. It arrived in super fast time, well packaged and was easy to install. It has made a massive different to the room that I actually wasn’t expecting, allowing more light, and is much more practical for a 9 year old who loves spending time in her room.
My fabric choice, Stripes Lulu Powder Blue starts at £33.00. Our window size, 105cms wide by 188cms high came in at £105. For a bespoke, handmade roman blind I think this is great value. We would never get something off the shelf like this to fit the window so I’m really pleased with the product and the service.
Window Treatments from Direct Blinds:
Direct Blinds have a really big range from roller blinds, through to verticals, panel blinds, pleated blinds and a perfect fit blind. Fabric choice is good too ranging from traditional through to more modern and contemporary. Here are some of my favourites along with prices.
