3 Great Interior Design Mobile Apps

interior design apps for mobiles

More and more we are using mobile technology in every aspect of our lives. Tablet and smartphone apps have revolutionised the way we we access our favourite websites and the world of home interiors is no exception. If you’re looking for home decor inspiration whilst on the go, then there are some great apps out there that can give you just that.

I have taken a look at, and been using 3 of my favourite recently and here’s what I’ve found:

Pinterest is the fastest growing social media site ever.  In its first 2 years it gained over 10 million users compared to Facebook’s 6 million and over 80% of users are women. If you’re not familiar with the site, Pinterest is a tool for collecting and organising the things you love. Pin your favourite images to the site, or repin ones already there and organise them in a collection of pin boards. Crafting, gifts, interior design and food images are all really popular and pinning really does become quite addictive!

If you’re planning to redecorate, Pinterest is a great tool to help gather ideas and inspiration and save them all into one space. You can add your own comments, and grow the board as much or as little as you like. Love Chic Living is currently running a Pinterest competition and asking entrants to create their ‘Dream Living Room’ pinterest board. It’s a great way to be creative, take your imagination as far as it can go and really have fun pulling together ideas for you ideal home.

Here’s a section of my Love Kitchens Pinterest board where I collect images of kitchens I love the look of:

The Pinterest App is available to download at the App Store for free.

Houzz is an online platform for home remodelling and design, providing the user with everything they need to improve their homes from start to finish. All of this can be done via a mobile app.  I love the Houzz app I have to say. Like Pinterest it’s great for finding inspiration and new ideas. Browse through the uploaded photos and images and save them to different ideabooks. Something different that Houzz can offer though is the community angle. Ask the community questions, start a new discussion or look for feedback from home designers and improvers all over the world. I love that part. Maybe I’m just nosey of course, and love to see what other people are doing to their homes. Whatever, it’s a great way to stumble across new ideas and gain new inspiration for your own home decorating.

This is how Houzz looks online when I’m searching through photos of contemporary living :

Again, the Houzz Mobile App is available free from the app store.

mydeco.com is an online home store that brings together interior boutiques from across the globe and puts them into one shopping basket. One aspect of the site that I love is the facility for creating 3D moodboards. I’ve already planned another moodboard tutorial featuring this one so hang in there, but if you can get to grips with it, it’s a great way to really visualise the end result of your home improvements. The mydeco mobile app is a great way to find new ideas and inspiration for your home. See what others have been creating and what’s popular. Take a look at the 3D room creations and use the 3D room planner to create your own. The App isn’t as easy to use as I would like, and to be honest I do prefer using the actual website, but it is another resource for viewing popular home interior designs on the go.

Here’s an example of a mydeco 3D Room creation:

Isn’t it amazing what you can create?! A great tool for helping you visualise your home improvements and interior designs.

So what are you waiting for? Time to get started and let your creativity get to work. If  you’re wanting to experiment you’ll need a good phone so do check that out first. Somewhere like Phones 4 U can walk you through what’s available and will offer advice and assistance on how to get started downloading apps. Great if you’re a beginner or novice and need a helping hand.

If you have a tablet these apps look even better so do make sure you’re downloading the right version.

Whichever way you choose to view these apps, you’ll have great fun finding new ideas for your home interiors!

Do let me know if you already use any of these apps or sites and what you think of them.

Brought to you in association with Phones 4 U

A really helpful app is called Mark on Call which basically allows you to use your cell phone as measuring tape with the camera. Instead of lugging around my measuring tape I can take measurements with my phone and store it there which is really helpful. Great list, thanks for sharing!

Word of mouth is an excellent way to start your search for an interior designer. Consult friends, family or co-workers for referrals to designers they’ve used or would recommend.
