3 Ways to Use Wall Hangings in the Home

Let’s talk about wall hangings.

We all know that adding art to our walls is a great way to finish a room, but have you ever considered using wall hangings or tapestries?

Including more pattern, print and texture on your walls can help the space feel more homely, inviting and personalised. It’s the perfect way to diversify your home accessories and give a room a creative dimension.

So let’s look at some of the ways in which you can use wall hangings in your home.

How to Use Wall Hangings in the Home

On a Feature Wall

Using a feature wall hanging as a focal point on a wall is a great way add some wow factor.

These are all from Fina Art America and show how you can create a look for your room, based on a piece of art, turned into a tapestry.

My advice here is to go big. Choose something larger than you would normally. If you’re hesitant, select your normal size, then push yourself out of your comfort zone and go one size bigger.

Choose a wall hanging with real impact to add both striking decor and a sense of depth with texture.

Be mindful of enhancing or complementing the decor scheme you’ve chosen. The wall hanging should blend into your colour palette, or be a starting point for your theme.

Whether you want botanical, monochrome, kitsch or playful, there’s always a way to add a tapestry to the space and build on the interior design you’ve created.

Using a feature wall to do this will really add some vibrant impact to your space.

In a Wall Display

Now the real skill with using a tapestry, comes from mixing in your wall hanging to a wall collage or display.

This is where you can vary the size; medium and small tapestries will work best here.

You don’t want to overpower the display, but want to add a different dimension, an alternative texture or a balance of mediums. BE inventive with how you use them.

Wall displays don’t just have to be about framed prints, they can include china, ceramics, plates, hangings, fabrics and more. Often the more varied your materials, the more interesting your collage.

Lay them out on the floor before you start hanging the pieces. Give them an eclectic, bohemian style of layout. Make it random, make it personal and steer clear of being too formal with it. It will feel much more natural.

Personalise the display, add in your character, your likes, your favourite patterns, your chosen colours.

It’s your home, make it your own by being creative. A wall tapestry certainly lends itself to a customised look and is the perfect partner to this type of display.

Create a Custom Wall Hanging

And leading on from the last idea, why not customise and create your own wall hanging?

It’s true that custom tapestries are a thing, and an addition to your home that really embodies a personal touch.

They give you the option to upload your own imagery, like a family photograph or a treasured memory and turn it into a bespoke piece of wall art – in the shape of a tapestry. Pretty cool right?

Then use the ideas above, either pop it on a feature wall, giving it pride of place, or add it to a mixed display. The options are really endless, all you need is a little imagination and creativity.

I would live to do a custom tapestry or wall hanging design, that would suit well the earthy elements of the living rooms. I have plenty of good scarfs lying around which would like to frame and hang in the living room along with some custom wall art that might design. You have given some nice ideas ponder upon.
