5 Ways to Shed New Light on your Living Room

I have some lovely lighting tips and ideas in today’s Guest post. Great for these dull and dreary January days. Enjoy!

5 great ideas for lighting up your living room

Start the New Year off on the right foot by being the envy of your neighbours with a beautifully designed and elegant living room. Because we spend so much time in the living room of our houses, it is important to make the space our own. In other words, the space should be a reflection of your personal tastes and styles. With the furniture and decor of the living room selected, be sure to give time and consideration to the lighting choices. If the space is lacking adequate windows for natural light, be sure to liven up the room with tasteful lamps or track lighting running the perimeter of the ceiling. Here are the 5 best ways to shed new light on your living room.

1. Consider the Space:

Prior to even shopping for lighting fixtures, give adequate time and thought to what the living room is used for. Is it a formal gathering place for family and friends? Is it a relaxing play area for children? These are all questions that will help define what type of lighting options would fit best in the room. For example, a tasteful and elegant crystal chandelier will look stunningly beautiful in a formal space; however, it will look awkward in a room designed with young children in mind.

2. Recessed Lighting:

Because recessed lighting can be purchased in many different styles, colors and sizes it represents one of the best lighting options for a living room. Furthermore, given that the concept of recessed lighting is hidden from view in the ceiling, it can add a modern feel to any living room space. Be aware that recessed lighting often has to be augmented with traditional lighting choices like lamps or chandeliers because it does not emit enough light to cover the entire room.

3. LED Strip Lighting:

Utilize the latest state of the art technology to turn your home into a contemporary masterpiece with LED Strip Lighting. If strung correctly, LED lighting can give a soft glow of light to small areas. Use it to light the perimeter of the living room and supplement the LED lights with lamps or similar light sources.

4. Elegant Chandeliers:

If luxury and classic style is most important, consider going all out with beautiful chandeliers that have both a stylistic and functional purpose. Those looking to design their living room in a unique and creative manner will want to view the options offered at Dotmaison lighting where you can find modern lines and smart & beautiful adaptations of the classic chandelier. There are also more playful and colourful chandeliers to brighten up the mood of the living room.

5. Get Creative with Hanging Lights:

Because the living room is designed as a place for rest, relaxation and entertainment with the entire family it is the perfect space to get creative and take chances with style and design. Consider using unique hanging lights such as the images offered through Architecture Art Designs to liven up the space. Because a hanging light fixture will be the focal point of the room, it is okay to choose something that is controversial or unique because it will draw attention and interest. For the remainder of the room, opt for classic light features that can serve as reading lamps or table lights.

Recessed lighting ftw – can give a space an atmosphere of luxury with very little financial output compared to other techniques!

Having said how much I love recessed, just found this statement piece, would be perfect for over our dining table (not lucky enough to have a separate living/dining space)…
