Looking for inspiration for doing up your kitchen? There are some great ideas in today’s guest post. Enjoy!
Your kitchen is the heart of your home – where guests will be welcomed, family meals will be eaten, and where, if you’re a foodie, you’ll spend most of your time. That’s why it’s important to make sure your kitchen is perfect for you. If you love cooking up feasts for friends and family, it takes the fun out of it if you’re struggling with an old, inefficient cooker, having to work on cluttered worktops and tripping over the dining furniture. If this sounds like your cooking experience, consider these design ideas for a trendy, modern and most importantly of all, practical kitchen.
Customise for the Way You Cook
If you use a lot of herbs and spices in your cooking, then don’t waste time rummaging through your cupboards looking for what you need – install a spice rack for ease of access. If you’re forever chopping away, consider building a chopping board into your worktop, or installing a slide-away one which works just like a drawer.
Nothing’s more irritating when you’re cooking up a storm than somebody barging in and getting in the way of your food prep for the sake of getting a glass of water or worse, taking forever to make a cup of tea. Keep your food prep area at one end of the kitchen, away from the fridge and sink, and if you need to wash food often, consider installing a smaller ‘food prep’ sink.
If you’ve got fancy crockery and kitchenware to show off, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t. Open shelving above and below your counters provides easy access to equipment and gives your kitchen an open, airy, modern look. It’s also a good way of keeping everything organised – there’s no temptation to sling washed-up equipment into the cupboard when everything’s on display for all to see.
If your kitchen redesign involves replacing appliances, then now’s a good time to make the switch to integrated appliances – appliances which are built into your kitchen setup. Having an integrated fridge, oven, microwave, and any other kitchen appliances you may wish to switch isn’t just space-saving and visually appealing – many manufacturers put more of their latest technologies into their integrated appliances due to their growing popularity at the expense of freestanding equipment. Manufacturers of integrated appliances include Amica, whose fridges, freezers, microwaves, cookers, ovens, hobs, extractor hoods and other kitchen appliances have energy-efficiency ratings of A and above – meaning real savings on energy bills.
If the kitchen is where your heart is, that should be reflected in its look and layout. Keep everything modern, functional and energy-efficient using appliances from reliable brands such as Amica and you’ll be surprised and how much more you’ll enjoy creating culinary classics in the kitchen.
