Rooms Made for You: Changing the Face of DIY

Last week I went to look at some brand new products that are totally going to revolutionise DIY in the home. Seriously.

British Gypsum have launched 3 new products, under the name Rooms Made for You, aimed at householders, which will change the way we live in our homes.

Before I share these with you in detail, I want to show you the venue for this event: The Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard and the most stunning views. Do check out this post from Mari for more info on the Shard.

The ViewRooms Made for You is a new generation of products designed to make you think differently about the space in which you live. They make you look at your home as more than just a functional space; where your home lifestyle and experiences can be improved and changed.

Magnetic Plaster:

StudyThistle Magnetic Plaster instantly turns any wall into a magnetised surface, making it a perfect display board. Oh, the possibilities for this are endless and I’m dying to try this out in my own home. It’s a normal plaster that you can apply to any wall (or get a professional in to do it) which then attracts magnets. Use it in kids rooms, a playroom, your home office or your kitchen and turn a wall into an instant display area. We saw some great ideas and suggestions for using it at the event, but I can think of so many more. I’m already thinking of magnetic hooks over my new dressing table so I can hang all my jewellery and necklaces. And wouldn’t it have been great when I was making my Instagram Wall Art? You don’t need special magnets, but obviously the stronger the better, especially for heavier items.

Lifestyle Wall:

Living RoomWhilst the magnetic plaster is a lovely creative touch to your home, Lifestyle Wall is the one that’s going to revolutionise DIY. These walls allow you to fix anything anywhere, without the need for specialist equipment, drills or fixings. Hang shelves, pictures, kitchen cabinets and even tvs with just a set of normal, everyday screws. Yes, that’s right, simply use a screwdriver to put in a screw and you’re good to go.

Lifestyle wall hangingMade from Gyproc Habito, a new board technology, these plasterboards provide much more strength than normal boards, and are capable of supporting up to 15kg. Never again do we need to put off hanging a picture or putting up a shelf because we don’t have the correct raw plugs. Anyone can do this, it’s so easy to screw into, even I tried it and managed!

Silent Floor:

Silent FloorAfter undertaking considerable reasearch, British Gypsum found that noise issues were one of the biggest problems for many homeowners. So they developed Silent Floor, which allows house members to turn up their music without disturbing others, and means many can get a good night’s sleep too. For those who work nightshifts, noise breakthrough can be a big problem in the daytime and of course, we all know how noise is a no-no for sleeping babies. Silent Floor allows peace and quiet for everyone in the home.

The secret of the floor is in the resiliently mounted ceilings and sound-insulating plasterboard linings, which outperform standard floors by 15dB. Generally used for new builds when putting in new ceilings, again this is going to change how we live in our homes.

What do you think of these new products? Are you as excited about them as I am?

What’s your favourite?

Thanks to British Gypsum for a lovely day out at The Shard and for treating us so well. All comments and opinions are genuine and honest.

I love the magnetic plaster, I want to create a wall of framed photos and this would make it so easy to play around with the layout.
