Today, I’m giving you a little peak into my finished dining room. Once the kitchen is fully done, I’m going to give you a proper tour of this room (you can see the kitchen through an open doorway) and full reveal video too, but for now, I want to introduce you to the stunning Charnwood Loveseat from Darlings of Chelsea.
Whilst technically this room is a dining room in our 120 year old Victorian semi, we’ve used it as more of a ‘den’ come playroom since the children were small. When we first moved in, we had a huge dining table in the middle of the room, but it soon became apparent that we were wasting the space, and that the children needed the room for toys more than we needed the table.
About 5 years ago we redesigned the room, with a small, extendable table, and introduced a sofa, storage and tv with games console. It worked for a while, but when I decided the redecorate the room, it became apparent that we didn’t need the huge sofa that we’d originally purchased. We NEVER sat on it for extended periods of time and it simply took up too much space.
I was aware of Darlings of Chelsea having collaborated with them earlier in the year, and researching their range, I noticed a section of small sofas on their website. The Charnwood collection has been on my radar for some time, and pops up on Pinterest a lot, so I was very excited to see that the Loveseat was the perfect dimensions to fit our space, and yet still provided seating for two.
I love that it combines a mix of both the traditional and contemporary. The button back detailing is reminiscent of chesterfield styling, yet the angular arms and compact design is completely of the moment. Bring them together, add in wooden feet in dark solid oak, and the most sumptuous seat cushion and you have perfection.
Of course, there are a multitude of fabrics and colours to choose from, and you can order up to 6 samples from the Darlings of Chelsea website. I knew I wanted a velvet, and with the pink and green scheme for this room, it seemed sensible to go for a green colouring too. I chose a Hard Wearing velvet in Aqua, actually made from 100% polyester, designed for those that want the feel of velvet but need to be able to brush away marks and crumbs. In a family home, this is exactly what I
It looks beautiful. It’s so soft, so tactile and so comfortable. And with the fabric having undergone a 100,000 rub test I know it’s going to stand the test of time, and continue looking great in years to come.
At the time of order, the website was hosting a sale, so the Loveseat in this particular fabric was retailing at around £1800. At the time of writing, at full price it sells for £2650. It’s a good mid-range price, which is exactly the kind of market Darlings of Chelsea appeals to.
Darlings of Chelsea is a small, family run UK company with 4 showrooms and most of its sofas are made right here to order. They are renowned for their award winning customer service, and pride themselves on the level of care and support they offer their customers.
I visited the Birmingham showroom recently and saw first hand how relaxing they aim to make the shopping experience. There are refreshments on hand and even a kids play corner to keep little ones entertained. Because many of their sofas and chairs (except the European ranges) are made right here from British craftspeople, delivery times are shorter too. My sofa was estimated to arrive at 8-10 weeks, and it came bang on time.
The day of delivery didn’t go according to plan though and the delivery company ran about 3-4 hours late, but they kept me informed and still delivered our sofa, even though it was 9 o’clock at night. They couldn’t have been more helpful.
The whole family is in love with our new loveseat. The quality is outstanding. The way in which the sofa seems to hug you when you sit down still surprises me, and we can’t wait to spend many happy years together. To help bring the sofa into the room scheme I added the dark velvet cushion, and throw, but as it comes with two matching cushions you really don’t need anything else if you don’t want it.
