A Festive Date Night Table Styling with Portmeirion

This post is part of my paid partnership with Portmeirion UK

Today’s table styling with my partner Portmeirion UK features my take on a festive date night using the wonderful pieces from the Sara Miller London Portmeirion Celestial Collection.

Christmas is a busy time. As a family we are pulled in all different directions, juggling work, gift buying, events and school activities. Then, of course, there’s the inevitable Christmas lurgy that befalls us all at this time of year too.

So, it’s important to slow down. Take a breath. And reconnect.

With that in mind, I’ve pulled together some ideas for a get together with your partner or a close friend. Someone you can share a wonderful evening with, enjoying good food and wine and spending time relaxing and unwinding. You deserve it.

As a brand ambassador for Portmeirion UK, I took the opportunity to use their Sara Miller London Portmeirion Celestial collection for the first time and embrace their #GetTogether campaign.

Portmeirion’s philosophy is about helping people spend time together. Their current campaign, #GetTogether focuses on sharing moments, friendships, time and fun with those we love – there’s more about this on the Get Together hub.

The Sara Miller London Portmeirion Celestial Collection

This particular collection from the Sara Miller London Portmeirion partnership is a particular favourite. It’s absolutely beautiful and ideal for special occasions.

Featuring a stylish and sophisticated finish, the pieces are decorated in gold stars – they’re simple and elegant – and make the perfect setting for Christmas, a wedding or a date night with a special person.

How to Create your Festive Date Night Table

This table could easily be created for your Christmas Day lunch, and I plan to extend the setting for my family of 4 around the Christmas table.

But for now, this is a date night for me and my husband. A little table where we can sit in peace and quiet and enjoy a meal together. To keep things simple I’d even buy in a Meal Deal, a takeaway or eat leftovers. Sometimes it’s not just about the food but about the time you spend together.

Make it Festive

As we’re enjoying the festive season right now, let’s embrace the moment. I’ve taken the gold and white theme of the Celestial collection and added a touch of sparkly pink here and there.

Starting with the runner, it adds a focal point to the table from which everything else follows.

The tealight holders are from the Sophie Conran Portmeirion Collection and add that romantic or festive sparkle to an evening table setting. I’ve added height with gold taper candles in candlesticks too (my own).

Set up your placemats next – these are Sara Miller London Portmeirion Etched Leaves placemats and coasters which come in sets of 4. They come in a variety of colours but for my setting I’ve chosen them in Dark Grey.

Runner from Asda, Gold Succulent from Marks and Spencer, Candlesticks from Next, decorations from a variety of supermarkets.

Add Your Tableware

The Sara Miller London Portmeirion Celestial collection features delicate gold stars and 22 karat gold embellishments. It really is divine.

I’ve kept it relatively simple with dinner plates, side plates and a dessert bowl set up for each person. Using the decorations from the tree, you can be creative to update the setting with some festive touches.

The wine glasses are from the Sara Miller London Portmeirion Chelsea Gold Leaf collection and add the finishing touch to the setting. Decorated with an array of tiny gold leaves, they bring a little extra sparkle to wine drinking. I can imagine using these over the festive period, sat in front of the fire and Netflix, enjoying a cosy evening in.

Create the Menu

As it’s a very busy time of year, and many of us are overeating anyway, my advice is to keep it simple. The trick here is to relax. Don’t give yourself lots of extra work, cooking up a storm in the kitchen. Grab a few ready meals, even buy in a pizza and enjoy the time you get to spend together. That should be your focus.

I have raided the Christmas stash of goodies though and treated us to a festive mince pie and a few indulgent chocolates just to finish off the evening.
