As well as all the usual stuff I like the hunter/gatherer aspect of going out and collecting wood! If I can’t afford to put the heating on I can keep a woodburner supplied with my own efforts!
I would love to collect dried wood with my family on our country walks, it will keep the children busy, get them running round, feeling that they are contributing to the family, it will decrease my energy bills which are really high in the winter when we are all in the home, and the yellow glow of a woodburner will turn my house into a home, I will even buy my husband a chimney sweeping kit for Christmas, and be on the lookout for a chimney liner to keep the smoke where it should be.

The thing I love most about a woodburning stove is the way it brings warmth into a room, acts as a focal point and encourages people to sit together in front of it. I think a stove like this creates a welcoming atmosphere. My partner’s dad has a woodburning stove in his cottage in Wales and it heats the whole cottage including the water and underfloor heating. We are about to move house and it will be the first property we’ve had where we could have a woodburning stove. As my partner is a tree surgeon we would also get most, if not all, of our wood for it from his work. This would be a fantastic prize and a great house-warming present as such. This would make a new house instantly feel like home.

I Love this because it looks so cozy and warm – Also the potential for ‘free’ fuel. I lived in a house where the only source of heat was a coal fire and I was constantly looking for sources of wood e.g. raiding skips – old lath and plaster wood makes for excellent kindling.
Nothing can beat real flames and losing yourself staring into the blazing heart of a wood fire.
The best thing is knowing you are building a grea5 fire and it whooshes into life as soon as you strike the match!! It’s very satisfying curing up with a good book and a glass of fizz in front of a roaring fire

What I love most about a woodburning stove is the fact that its free to fuel. My garden is huge plus I have access to mum and dads garden and when the trees have to be pruned the wood is left to season.
