Celebrating Afternoon Tea with the Portmeirion Atrium Collection

This post is part of my paid partnership with Portmeirion as an ambassador for 2019

As we come to the end of the summer, there’s nothing better than taking advantage of the last traces of sunshine to get together with friends and enjoy their company.

Today’s post is showcasing the new Portmeirion Atrium collection of tableware which I used during a recent afternoon tea party with some local friends.

Having spent a lot of the summer revamping our garden and making it more suitable for our family, we felt it was time to actually spend some time in it, rather than working on it. The table and chairs was a gift last year and still looks as good as new so I made it look all pretty so we could entertain for a change.

Coming together with friends is a joy. It’s one of life’s true pleasures. We don’t always do it enough, but you have to make the effort; it’s always worth it.

Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you; spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life – Amy Poehler

The girls have had birthday BBQs here with their friends, I’ve enjoyed a cuppa with neighbours in the daytime and glasses of wine in the evening.

This get together was about family and friendships and enjoying some lively conversation over cake, cava and cups of tea. But really, should we ever need an excuse to spend time with friends?

It didn’t take long to whip up some treats for our afternoon get together.

My youngest daughter is a bakery whizz (watch out Bake Off) and regularly makes her favourite Mary Berry coffee Victoria Sandwich, which you can see above. It’s delicious.

Then I also popped a few vegan friendly scones on the table too so our other daughter could join in. Adding some fruit and jam, we were all good to go.

Now let me tell you about this beautiful Portmeirion Atrium collection

Through its design it captures the essence of the British countryside with a colourful palette and geometric patterns. It’s this combination of florals with repetitive designs that caught my attention. I love that juxtaposition.

The idea of this range is that you can mix and match different pieces – add in as much floral pattern or geometric design as you’d like to make it more unique to you. Give your dining table a personal style. Portmeirion Atrium is ideal for afternoon tea, family dinners and lunch time gatherings.

If you want to smarten things up, add in some teal-tinted ombre wine glasses or champagne flutes and finish off the look.

For our afternoon tea party I decided to have a little fun and served Cava from teapots into the teacups as well as the flutes. It certainly gave everyone something to chat about and giggle over.

Of course, we had teapots with actual tea too, but when you’re enjoying the sunshine and good company, a cup of cold, sparkling cava is perfect.

Time to eat and catch up.

Portmeirion’s philosophy is about helping people spend time together. Their current campaign, #GetTogether focuses on sharing moments, friendships, time and fun with those we love – there’s more about this on the Get Together hub. As a brand, I love their ethos, history and traditions (I’ll be visiting their UK based factory soon too) so am thrilled to be partnering with them this year.

Some of my favourite standout pieces from this collection include:

Atrium Embossed Large Jug – a beautiful stand alone piece, perfect as a centrepiece, vase or simple accessory. Makes a great gift too.

Atrium Embossed Platter – a simple, elegant design, again ideal on its own or mixed with floral and geometric designs from the rest of the collection. Another great gift or coffee table adornment.

Atrium Stemless Wine Glasses – a stunning set of sturdy, heavy glasses, perfect for a glass of wine or soft drink. The teal colouring complements the range beautifully.

You can shop all of the Portmeirion Atrium pieces I’ve used in this post here:

Oh wow, your table looks stunning! The colour and design of the tableware is so beautiful and it looks fab layered on those placemats. The tall jugs are gorgeous too especially with the foliage in. Lovely baked goodies too – looks like a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon x

Oh that’s such a pretty set but not overly flowery too. You can’t beat a great slice of cake and tea, the weather has been lovely for this hasn’t it.

That all looks lovely. I’m a big fan of ceramics that can be mixed and matched and this range works wonderfully like that. Your daughter’s cake looks perfect – well done to her!
