AEG Mastery Range at Grand Designs Live

I love Grand Designs and Grand Designs Live in particular. A few years ago I even interviewed the lovely Kevin McCloud, which you can read more about here.

So last week I took a trip to the event, as a guest of AEG in order to have a browse and to check out their latest products in their new Mastery Range, mostly around their ovens and hobs. If you are a regular reader, you’ll know how much I appreciate technology driven appliances and home accessories, the benefits they can bring to our lives, and how great they can often look.

AEG has developed amazing technology, particularly in ovens, that blew me away. As I mentioned to the team at the event, it’s been nearly 13 years since I invested in an oven, and in that time I really haven’t kept up with the advances in technology, and so learning what an oven can now do was surprising.  Maybe you’d be the same?

Let me just tell you a little about what I learned from the team at AEG.  As part of the Mastery Range of ovens, AEG has developed a product that cooks partly with steam. A small chamber houses tap water which is then converted to steam as part of the cooking process. It means that food is cooked so much quicker, more efficiently and saves money too. Furthermore, some models are equipped with a probe that when inserted into the meat, tell you when the optimum temperature is reached. Once this happens the oven switches off, giving you the perfectly cooked joint.

Want a beef joint cooked rare for some family members yet well done for yourself? No problem. Set the probe to cook the meat to rare, then when that cooking temperature is reached, remove your beef from the oven. Cut off a piece from the joint for yourself and put it back in the oven setting the probe to cook to ‘well done’. And there you have it, the perfect joint for every family member.

Ovens weren’t the only thing that caught my eye. How about a hob that is also an extractor fan? Very cool right. The extractor is situated in the middle of the hob, pulling in steam and smells, and saving you from requiring an overhead appliance. Great if you want to make a feature of an island with lighting and not the extractor fan.

And what about washing machines and tumble dryers? Well yes, the technology there was pretty cool too. From washers that guarantee not to fade your clothes, to tumblers that won’t shrink them either. What I liked was the way the technology was spread across the models. If your budget only runs to a certain amount, you still get some tech, but more to spend and you get the full advancements. Prices were reasonable too.

Overall it was a very enlightening day, and if like me, you love high tech in your appliances, do go and find out more. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Keep an eye out on the blog for more to come from me and AEG’s Mastery Range when I tackle my kitchen makeover in the next few months.

Oh and before I go, a visit to Grand Designs Live wouldn’t be complete without the man himself.

Kevin McCloud spotted at a book signing, looking very happy and chatty and his usual charming self.
