It’s been a while since my last behind the scenes update so I thought it a good idea to combine the last few months and give you a synopsis of how work has been going.
With the summer months, blogging is always a little slower so it makes sense to pull a few months of action together here in one place.
Behind the Scenes: Summer 2018
As I mentioned, the summer, particularly August becomes slow for any kind of blog collaborations as everyone takes time off for their holidays, but there are positive ways to cope with this change that I’ve learned from experience.
Well the big highlight is that Love Chic Living has been listed as a Top 10 UK Interiors Blog for the 4th year running. I am absolutely thrilled.
It has also been shortlisted in the Vuelio Blog Awards 2018 taking place later in November this year.
We took a little family press trip away to a cottage in North Wales to check out the location and the decor, and had an amazing time.
Plus I’ve given the daughter’s teen bedroom a makeover with a collaboration from Valspar paints and Murals Wallpaper.
We reviewed some gorgeous garden furniture and enjoyed the last of the summer sun, catching a few beautiful weekends in late August and early September.
And finally, a highlight this summer had to be my guest blogger slots. I had 3 wonderful bloggers create posts for me in August and I was thrilled to feature them on the blog. We had a boy’s bedroom design, a house tour and bedroom makeover plans.
As you probably know I also teach brands and businesses how to use Pinterest properly as a marketing tool for their website. I have a separate website HERE called jenstanbrook.com which offers tips, advice, a resource centre and all my coaching services.
The summer was busy with Power Hour sessions – a bespoke training session tailored to each brand or blogger – and they continue to do really well with older clients returning for top ups and more advanced training.
I’ve also been helping businesses learn how to write an effective business blog.
Income vs. Expenses:
If you’ve been reading this series all year, you’ll know I’ve been tackling my expenses and trying to keep them lower, and in turn increasing my profit margin.
It’s been a battle to be honest, but one I’m still working on and trying to streamline.
Income through August was much lower than the rest of the year, but it always is – it’s probably half of other months. But there have been some great collaborations and my Pinterest coaching keeps things ticking along.
It’s important to not panic, ride the wave and do other positive things – like go on holiday yourself!
September saw things really pick up and I now feel the blog is positioned well for the Christmas rush. I love creating Christmas content – sharing ideas and advice on trends, looks and products – and fingers crossed, this year will be no different.
I’d love to know what you have thought about the blog content in the last few months – drop me a comment below and let me know.
And if you love hearing more about life behind the scenes of a freelance blogger, let me know that too!
