How to Give your Bathroom a Luxury Finish (Without Spending a Fortune)

The bathroom has to be one of the most difficult rooms to decorate, in my humble opinion. Perhaps for me, it’s made doubly difficult because I have a tiny bathroom in a Victorian house, or maybe it’s just that I’m never that inspired by what I see. Whatever the issues, I struggle to find the perfect ‘look’ for my bathroom and showrooms plus magazines are always full of examples based on huge rooms. It’s never realistic. I want to see small bathrooms looking amazing. Furthermore I always want to achieve something of a luxury look and that seems impossible on either my budget or within the space.

How to create a luxury bathroom look in your own home without spending a fortune. Budget bathrooms that look like hotel bathrooms are everyone's dream. Learn how you can recreate a boutique hotel bathroom in your own home using tricks of the trade. So, after some research, and in the hope that it will help others, here are some of my top tips for giving your bathroom a luxury finish but without spending a fortune.

How to Give Your Bathroom a Luxury Finish:

Mix and match your products: If your budget won’t stretch far enough for full on glamorous luxury in your bathroom makeover, combine one or two more expensive items with others at a lower price range. No-one will ever know and it’s a great way to make your budget go further.

Upcycle: Even if you think you aren’t a dab hand at upcycling, I bet once you get into it you’ll love it. If you need storage for example, renovate an old chest of drawers into something beautiful for your towels or toiletries, adding a few gold or metallic knobs, for a lustrous finish.

Pick your favourite: choose just one favourite piece from a collection if you can’t afford the whole range. You might be surprised actually and realise that a more luxury brand is perfect for your budget, so do shop around.

Add a little luxury: It’s easy to think that you won’t be able to create a luxury looking bathroom, but with a little research you can find beautiful pieces that are so affordable. Villeroy and Boch is definitely one of my favourites and a brand that has beautiful collections perfect for a luxury bathroom, with something suitable for everyone.

Do it Yourself: Bring a little decadence to your bathroom by saving money on labour. If you can do some or all of the work yourself, you’ll be amazed how much money you save, allowing you to buy up quality items and accessories for the finished look. Just be sure you’re happy and skilled enough to do the plumbing and if in doubt, call in a professional for that one.

Create the right storage: It’s so important to add storage to your bathroom, to ensure it stays clutter free and looking fabulous. Decide on the type of storage you need and buy the best you can for your budget. Vanity units like this Villeroy and Boch Vanity Unity actually holds so much more than you realise so doing away with the need for a mirror cabinet or other cupboards. Plus they look amazing, sleek and so on trend.

Add floor features: A really easy way to create a luxurious bathroom is through the flooring. Make this a feature. Add patterned or geometric tiles, and don’t be afraid to add a rug. Be careful to ensure it is anti-slip though.

High End showering: Creating a dream shower is the epitome of luxury in my opinion so source the best products and surrounds you can find. Keeping it simple and pared back will help it feel high-end.

Add a Chair: I know it sounds a bit crazy but if you have the space, add a chair in a corner. It’s the height of decadence to be able to have a spot to sit, or rest your clothes, and it’s unexpected. It makes the room feel extra special so give it a go.

Perfect packaging: This is a trick I’ve learned from some wonderful stays in hotels around Europe. Pick your products carefully, and choose those with simple, more elegant packaging. They don’t have to be expensive but coordinating your packaging and matching to your room’s colour scheme can make them seem so much more luxurious than they are.

Add Fragrance: There’s nothing quite so beautiful as a gorgeous smelling bathroom. So add flowers, candles and fragrances to bring a wonderful, memorable scent to the room.

What do you think of these tips to make your bathroom feel luxurious without spending a fortune? Is there anything else you would do?

Great advice!! The bathroom isn’t always a room that take priority for luxury over others, and what a shame that is! Your advice and choices show just how simple and affordable a bathroom makeover can be. Nothing quite says decadence like a chair on geometric tiles in the corner of a gorgeous smelling bathroom! Thanks very much for sharing your insight!

Perfect packaging and matching is a great trick to add subtle luxury. I also love the idea of adding a green plant or succulent (as in the shower photo)!
