What Does a Colour Scheme Say About Your Personality

I love all the psychology around what a colour scheme says about your personality. It probably has to do with the fact that I did a Psychology degree back in the day, and the way in which our minds work has always fascinated me.

PIN FOR LATER:

If you've ever wondered what colour schemes say about your personality now's your time to find out. IWhy do you choose bright yellows or oranges, or prefer calm blues and greens, or even a simple monochrome black and white? This guide tells you it all! #colourscheme #colourfuldecor #colourinteriors #lovechicliving

It’s quite likely that you choose colour for your home in a natural way, either following trends, going with your favourites, or trying new things from what you see in magazines and on the web. What we ultimately choose is intrinsically linked to our personality. But what does it all mean?

Well let’s dig in and find out.

I’ve teamed up with Julian Charles who have produced a great little ebook all about what a colour scheme says about your personality, so with their help, let’s find out if it’s all true.

What Does a Colour Scheme Say About Your Personality

Yellow: I love to decorate with yellow. I’ll add it as accents in many rooms and I did used to have it on the walls too. I find it bright, happy and sunny of course and apparently if you use yellow it show’s you’re creative, and a bit of a perfectionist. Well, yep, that’s certainly true of me!

Grey: If you love using grey it means you’re reliable but maybe a little concerned about being the centre of attention. It’s also the colour of compromise and shows you’re sometimes a little indecisive.

Green: This is a very calming colour and as such if you like using it in your home, it demonstrates you as a very patient, collected person. Apparently you’re a loyal friend and a very faithful partner. You probably don’t stick to house trends but are happy to buy what you like, when you see it.

Purple: Now I never use purple in my house anymore, although I’ve used it lots in the past. Purple means you like structure, organisation and routine (something that disappeared from my life when the kids came along!). You’re extremely house proud and have a very creative mind.

Pink: Using this softer colour means you’re in touch with your feminine side, are warm, friendly and approachable. You see the good in other people, although not necessarily yourself, and are often quite shy and reserved. I’ve used pink a little more in the house recently, and I probably fit this description.

Blue: Another calming colour, if you decorate with blue, you prefer tranquility and peace over hustle and bustle. You hate conflict, don’t hold a grudge and can be a people pleaser. When it comes to socialising in your home you’d prefer a close group of friends than a large house party.

Orange: If you use lots of orange in your decor, you enjoy socialising and partying and are a friendly, good-natured person. You’re an adventurer, love camping, walking and climbing and love making new friends.

Black and White: If you’re more drawn to monochrome shades that bright colours, you probably prefer the simple things in life, like a good book or dinner with friends. You’re probably cautious with your interior decor too, but that’s not a bad thing.

What My Home Colours Say About Me:

So, if we take the Julian Charles guide and look at the colour scheme I like to use – yellow, blue, grey and pink – my personality should be:

  • Creative, perfectionist
  • Reliable, indecisive, uncomfortable with being the centre of attention
  • Likes peace and tranquility, is a people pleaser, prefers small social gatherings at home
  • Warm, friendly and a little shy and reserved.

How accurate is this?

Well, actually it’s pretty spot on (although I do love going out more than staying in).

How about you? Do your chosen colour schemes reflect your personality? I’d love to know. Leave a comment below or share on social media with me and use the hashtag #colourmypersonality

I love blue and have it throughout my place. Your description for blue fits me perfectly.
