Are you in the market for some new flooring? Tired and fed up with carpet and looking for inspiration on what else is available? Well look no further – have you considered using floor tiles? The humble floor tile has come a long way, with new innovations and creative designs allowing us to showcase beautiful flooring that really packs a punch.
In this country we don’t really consider tiles for a floor covering so much, particularly not outside the bathroom or the kitchen, but it’s well worth looking into. Recently I was in Spain and saw some amazing floor tiles being used in different locations, and whilst I know the climate is a lot different there, new products and underfloor heating make this a much more viable option in our country.
Now there are a lot of different looks you can get with a floor tile, so I’ve chosen 3 of my current favourites, all quite different to each, so maybe there’s something for you here?
Look #1: Wood Effect
So you’re a fan of wood effect floors, maybe you like laminate but want something a little different and more luxurious for your floor this time round. How about wood effect tiles. They’re cool, crisp, easy to keep clean and work beautifully with underfloor heating. Many people worry about tiles being too cold, but with warmth underfoot you don’t need to worry. And of course the added bonus is the longevity of the product and its minimal maintenance. I’ve had laminate flooring down for a decade down and it’s definitely looking tired.
The examples I’ve used in this post are from a new start up company called Tile Devil (it’s always good to support the smaller businesses don’t you think?) and they have some great examples of both floor and wall tiles, so do check them out. The Laponia Wood Effect floor tile can be found HERE.
Look #2: Heritage Patterns
Oh how I absolutely love this look. It’s so on trend right now and will continue to grow in popularity over the coming years as more and more people adopt this design in their homes. If you’re tired of the simple, minimal look and want to inject a little statement into your flooring, and indeed onto your walls, something like these stunning heritage tiles, in a mix and match design works wonders. Laying in this design, bordered but a coordinating plain tile allows you to section off and zone the area; perfect in an open plan living space.
Look #3 Glossy and Sleek
However, if you do prefer something simple and serene, look no further than these stunning large glossy tiles in tough, glazed porcelain. Again, they’re easy to keep clean, require little maintenance and will last for years. These beauties are sourced in Spain and look incredible with a Scandi or monochrome designed room. Pop down a rug for a little colour, extra warmth or impact, and don’t forget your non-slip mat.
Family homes needn’t be boring or dull. It is possible to decorate your space in beautiful pieces and clever design, you just need the right information and access to the right products.
If you’re about to lay new flooring in your home, do consider some beautiful floor tiles. They’ll be very practical, easy to maintain and durable – all essentials in a busy family space.

I love floor tiles. I cannot wait to get our hallway tiles restored to their former glory! Will also be choosing some for the bathrrom and kitchen soon so thanks for the inspiration!
Ooh, I absolutely love all of these looks! They’re all so different and unique and give off their own message. The heritage look is my favorite because it gives the room so much character! Very cool feature! Thanks so much for sharing these ideas!
Tiles are such a great floor finish for the home. So easy to clean and so many options. The ‘wood look’ floor tiles are even better in reality. I’ve seen then in a herringbone pattern and they look fabulous. Some really great ideas, thanks!
