I have a thing with wall art. It’s a real weakness. But I often find I’m racked with indecision when it comes to making choices for buying posters online. I never really find exactly what I want and you never really get a sense of how the art will look on your own walls. But when Desenio got in touch and asked me to choose some Scandinavian prints to display in my own home, I was completely sold. It’s exactly what I love for my walls.
I’ve chosen a couple of different sets so I could create collages. I guess as I’m always liking so many different things, it’s difficult to choose just one print, so making a collage solves that problem. It allows me to bring a selection of prints I love onto my walls.
The first set is in my living room. In the New Year I’d really like to decorate this room perhaps with inspiration from a Making Spaces makeover, adding some deeper blues and flashes of colour. I’ve already started the transformation with a new rug and bits of furniture, but the decorating itself will have to wait until next year.
So, I’ve chosen a selection of blue and gold large 50x70cm posters to put on one wall above a sofa. I had a colourful collage here before which I redistributed in the room as this makes much more of a statement, and brings more richer blue into the room. I’ve framed them in gold frames to give them a classy, more sophisticated look.
Next up is probably my favourite set. After the loft conversion late last year I’d not put anything on the stairs and landing waiting for the right thing to come along. Now was the perfect time to create a Desenio Scandinavian style collage in colours that work with the wall shade.
It’s from their Mindfulness collection, and inspiration for the layout is taken from their website and collage layout suggestions. I’d chosen the posters and sizes to work together as one particular set, but once we’d framed them all, I played around with how they should look, liking this particular combination.
It’s easy if you have a large floor space, to lay the pictures out exactly as you’d like to see them on the wall. You can move them around to experiment and get the look just right. After i’d done this I took a photo on the phone, measured the dimensions of the full collage and marked it out on the wall. I needed a little help hanging them (we did it by leaning over the top banister) and it took about 30 minutes to get them all on the wall, but I’m really pleased with the result.
And then finally, I wanted something simpler to go up in the loft bedroom. There’s not a lot of wall space up there and I want to keep it feeling uncluttered so I’ve gone for just one more large poster in a typical Scandi stag. What do you think? If you’ve been struggling to find frames online to bring your prints to life, Desenio has a good range in many finishes and a multitude of sizes. You can see I’ve chosen a selection in both black wood and gold to complement the posters. I’m so pleased with how they’ve all turned out.
