A little while ago I wrote about how virtual reality was being used in kitchen design, the benefits and the easy by which you can finalise your plans. Well, in today’s post I want to look at how the use of technology and virtual reality in particular can be used in bathroom design.
Let’s take a look at how this works:
Companies like Bathrooms By Design are using virtual reality to give their customers the ultimate experience when it comes to designing their own bathrooms.
Customers download the app from the App Store which then showcases beautiful bathroom design filling them with ideas and advice for creating their own. The app allows the user to experience different bathroom designs as if in the room itself. No more visiting the showroom if that’s not for you; you can start your bathroom research from the comfort of your own home.
Then, when you’re ready, use the app to book your appointment with a design consultant.
It’s at this point that designers want to know more about you, your likes and dislikes when it comes to bathroom design and the physical attributes of the space. They’ll even send out a surveyor free of charge to determine all of this for you.
Now this is where the magic happens and your details can be populated into the virtual reality software. You get to browse the full catalogue of products plugging them into the software building your design exactly the way you like it. The beauty of all this? Well, you get to see exactly how the bathroom is going to look, in a space that’s identical to your home. If you don’t like… well you change it and try something else.
Designers help you to maximise the space to its fullest and can offer advice on the best products for the space. Choose a company like Bathrooms by Design for example and you get to experience their full range of products from brands like Hansgrohe, Duravit and Crosswater. You have maximum choice then when designing your room.
Next you get to check out your design in either 2D, 3D or Virtual Reality. Step into your design and experience it exactly as if it was built. Walk around, move around, see how it would feel and if things are quite right, use the software to change them out for something else, and try again.
The beauty of this technology and how its being used in this environment means you never have to worry if you’ve made the right choices when it comes to design. So many of us find it difficult to visualise the final design, resulting in brash choices and wrong decisions. Virtual reality takes away the indecision and the errors, as well as creating a much more fun design experience for the customer. You get to spend your money wisely, feeling confident that the choices that you’ve made are perfect for you, your family and your home.
I’ve played around with virtual reality viewers and apps like this and whilst it takes a little getting used to, the possibilities for its use are endless. The whole design experience is enhanced and given a new edge; something at sitting at a desk browsing through catalogues simply can’t give us.
It’s easy to see how this technology improves the experience of buying a new bathroom, and will make great designers out of all of us. Pretty exciting right?
You can find out more and see exactly how this works at the Bathrooms By Design VR App page HERE.
I’d love to know your thoughts on whether designing bathrooms using virtual reality is something you’d like to try.

This is informative article. There are now software as well online which are allowing us to make 2d and 3d bathroom designs, the paid versions help make a complete 3d bathroom sketch. you are right technology is becoming a big part of our life, there may be a time when we will not need an architecture to design our bathrooms, kitchens and master bedrooms for us. we would be able to do everything all by ourselves using software and tools.
Wow, that’s really awesome! The idea of being able to see what your future bathroom will look like through just your phone is incredible!
This is pretty neat, and forward thinking by bathroom by designs. It’s the way of the future.
Its a win win situation really, why wouldn’t you try VR or AR to visualize something. I imagine the tech might be kind of crude being that its somewhat early in its development, but come 10 years i imagine you will be stumbling around an infinite, customized/interactive versions of your bathroom from your lounge chair and VR.
Thanks for sharing this I liked checking this out. thanks – Sarah
