Welcome to the 9th post this year, in my series on finding stylish, practical and downright fabulous holiday homes in the UK. I’ve been taking my family away to holiday properties in the UK for over a decade now so I know what to look for, what works, and what doesn’t. For me, the property has to feel like home and I use the trips to experience different design, use of space and alternative property types. As my children get older our needs have changed, plus we’ve become more flexible in the type of home we can rent. An apartment certainly isn’t out of the question now, and so that’s why I’ve chosen this specific property for this month’s feature.
This month’s featured property is St Aubyns in Hove, Brighton from Best of Brighton Holiday Lettings.
Situated in the middle of Hove, this 2 bedroom apartment is tastefully decorated and filled with Brighton artwork. The two double bedrooms ensure a great night’s sleep and the open plan living is on-trend and practical. If you haven’t tried a layout like this, it’s a good chance to experience it on your next holiday. Just off the seafront and within walking distance of pubs and shops, this is a great base to explore Hove and Brighton.
What drew me to this property are the high ceilings, big bay window and chandeliers. It reminds me of my own Victorian house but without the clutter; the streamlined decor really appeals, and holiday lets like this are a real chance to pull back from the material possessions and live a simpler, calmer life for a little while. The layout in the main open plan space is well thought through. So often the kitchen area can seem out of place along one wall but utilising the L-shape gives it a sense of purpose. The dining table sections off the seating area from the cooking one and breaks up the larger room.
The two double bedrooms are simply and tastefully furnished mirroring the decor from the main living area. There’s plenty of storage, soft carpets and fresh looking bedding. Everything looks clean and inviting, even pretty new and that’s always a good sign for a holiday home. You don’t want to feel like your the hundredth family to stay there, it needs to always feel like you’re the first visitor …. well almost.
As I mentioned, the kitchen looks modern, clean and fresh with a good layout and mod cons. There’s even a washer and tumble drier. Be mindful of the listing of course, and if a dishwasher is a high priority for you make a note if one is included. St. Aubyns maintains cupboard space in place of a dishwasher which makes sense. I can imagine many a morning (or evening) spent at this dining table enjoying a home cooked meal, or even a takeout with my fellow travellers.
St. Aubyns is just a stone’s throw from the seafront and is in a typical Brighton property. The area offers so much to do and explore with great shopping, culture, nightlife and eateries.
