Find Your Perfect Holiday Home #5: Old Oaks Cottage, Norfolk

So I can’t quite believe that this is the fifth post in my series on finding the perfect holiday home in the UK. I do hope you’re loving this series, I know I’m enjoying pulling them together for you. We’ve had some great properties so far (scroll down to see the full list) from around the UK, highlighting just how incredible holidaying here really is. As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve been seeking out the best holiday homes in the UK for over a decade now, and think I have a pretty good eye when it comes to booking the perfect place. As well as style and design, the home has to be practical too and meet the needs of my family, and now with teenage girls that seems to have changed. To be honest, all we need is good wifi and separate bedrooms and they’re happy. Your needs might be different, but hopefully I’ll show you what to look for and how to find the perfect holiday home just for you.

Anyway, I digress slightly, so let’s get going with showing you around today’s amazing property.

This month’s featured property is Old Oaks Cottage in Reepham, Norfolk from Norfolk Country Cottages.

Whereas last month’s cottage was a large one, this month I wanted to feature something for the smaller family. Old Oaks Cottage is just 2 bedrooms, one double and one single, perfect for a young family just starting out on their adventures with a UK holiday. But don’t think this place is boring, oh no, far from it, it has some fabulous hidden secrets, so keep reading to find out.

Old Oaks Cottage is a newly renovated Victorian farm cottage, the interior was designed and furnished in 2016 and the cottage now makes a stylish, elegant retreat from the busy world, with daily access to the owner’s heated pool and hot tub which are both set in a delightful courtyard garden. Yes that’s right, you get to use the pool and hot tub too.

Reepham is a small market town nestled in the countryside, with a few independent shops and some great eateries, but you’re also only 30 minutes away from Norwich in one direction or Norfolk’s stunning beaches in the other. A perfect location for a varied holiday experience.

This is the perfect base for all kinds of holidays. If you’re a couple with a young child enjoying a UK cottage holiday for the first time, you’ll find plenty to occupy both yourselves and the little one. Four hours a day in the pool, the hot tub all year round, beautiful countryside for walks and the Norfolk broads not faraway either.

So let’s take a tour around this beautiful home.

Downstairs there’s a gorgeous living space, incorporating a large lounge with wood burning stove, and a beautiful kitchen and dining area. Whilst it’s a just cottage, it feels big and spacious and the neutral, yet semi-eclectic decor make the most of the space. If you do have young children, you’re going to be spending your evenings at home, so I always go for a space I’d love to hang out in, whether indoors or outdoors (keep reading for more on the outdoors) and this one ticks so many boxes.

As I mentioned, there are two bedrooms, the main one above including a big king-size bed and glorious bedding.

The second single room is ideal for a child or added guest on your trip. I do love how these rooms look uncluttered yet still full of personality. Ideal for making yourself feel at home.

The bathroom houses a separate shower and that all important bath – essential when you have a young child on holiday.

Living Space:

Doesn’t this large living space look cosy and inviting? Can you imagine yourself sitting here in the evening, enjoying a glass of wine, or maybe a hot chocolate in the winter next to that roaring fire? I know I can.

Even the hallway is stylishly accessorised.

The kitchen is an important space when you’re on holiday. It needs to be functional, practical, clean and yet compact. I like to be able to do all the essentials, cook up a big breakfast, then throw it all in the dishwasher – no one wants to be doing the dishes whilst on holiday. There’s a washing machine in the utility too, and a downstairs cloakroom. Perfect.

Yes, the outdoor setting is beautiful and you get to use the courtyard, hot tub and pool as part of your holiday too. Fingers crossed the sun shines.

So are you all inspired for your next trip? I would have booked this in a heartbeat if I could squeeze in the second child!

This looks lovely and cosy! But it’s the pool that wins it over for me, looks like it’s somewhere in Italy not England! x

What a gorgeous holiday home!! It is SO hard to find nice accommodation in this country at times especially to meet all your needs. This is just beautiful and that pool!! Can you do dog-friendly ones next please?! Ha! They are always so ratty and ugly but we like to take our pup with us and just because I’m taking my dog doesn’t mean that I want a place that was decorated in the 90’s 😉 xxx
