Home Office Room Tour

Morning everyone and welcome to another week. Today I want to give you a little tour of my home office, newly refurbished from a shabby bedroom and my favourite space at the moment. I can’t tell you how much this room has transformed my working day; it’s surprised me so much, but I think working from the sofa with the laptop balanced on my knee had really started to get to me, and my back.

The room is the smallest in the house and used to by our youngest daughter’s bedroom until very recently. If you’ve been following our loft renovation project you’ll know that, as part of the work, Miss R has moved into a newer, bigger bedroom at the front of the house. You can see how it looks HERE.

So, without further ado, here is my new office:

Office deskThe room contains 2 desks and chairs, some shelving and IKEA Billy Bookcases with doors for hiding away the clutter. I’m utterly thrilled with my desk though. A cheapy one from IKEA, it’s perfect with the Lakeland Furniture chair. Wallpaper is Graham and Brown Frames in Gold, with accessories from Rose and Grey, B&Q, Made in Design and HomeSense. I have a blind for the window but haven’t managed to put it up yet; I’m actually loving all the light that floods into the room, but do need to shade the early morning sun which is making it very tricky to see my laptop screen.

Office lightWhat do you think of my ceiling pendant shade? It’s a Poul Henningson style Artichoke shade in layered wood available from Iconic Lights. And it costs just £40. That’s a great price isn’t it. It came flat packed but took just 10 minutes to layer up together, and the super easy to hang as you just fit over your existing pendant, no electrical fitting required at all. I love the Scandi design which is perfect for the room.

Desk detailThe Block noticeboard was from Rose and Grey and I’ve waited ages to put it up on the wall. Just need to put a few more things on it now, and really get to use the room. I had a few Instagram pictures printed at Polagram recently and have just washi taped them up for now to add a bit of colour, but it will soon get that lived in feel.

Office clock B&QMore coming soon about this clock and a few other accessories, all of which are from B&Q in their new S/S16 range but this is perfect for my desk. And it even has an alarm so I can set a timer for work if I need to – it stops me from browsing social media and focuses my mind.

Office cornerOk so moving around the room, we bought two large white Billy Bookcases from IKEA plus four doors to help us hid away the clutter. My husband wants to fill the cupboards with his electrical accessories (his hobby) and I’ve got my magazines, admin and filing bits in there too. The shelves will eventually be filled with our books which are still in storage following the loft conversion. We’ve started sorting through them, but it’s quite a job.

Office shelvesI was also sent this little Ampersand light above, from Iconic lights which is very cute. Battery powered it adds a lovely little ray of light in the evening if I’m working in here. The girls have their eyes on it for their rooms but I’m hanging onto it for now.

Umbra office shelvesOn the wall opposite my desk I’ve hung these fabulous Umbra Cubist Shelves from Red Candy. The large one is housing my charity shop antelope family find (we had a set of these when I was a child at home) and the smaller one holds just a few plants for now. The shelves are designed around Mondrian’s iconic cubist compositions and are pared back into a very contemporary or industrial look. The small shelf retails for £30, whilst the larger shelf is £40 and both are available from Red Candy. I know you’re going to be seeing a lot more of these shelves very soon when I use them for styling projects here on the blog.

Second deskThen finally on the last wall is my husbands desk. He was adamant he didn’t want it ‘styled’ and chose his own wall photos from our box of family photographs. As I type and look over at his desk now, it’s filled with cd’s, screwdrivers, paperwork and old magazines. He’s a hoarder so finally he has his own space in which to store his treasures. Oh, and the pink cushion is now thrown ceremoniously on the floor!

So, I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of this room as time goes on; it’s perfect for photography and a great styling space. And I have a nice little view of our garden and the surrounding trees. Perfect.

The Iconic Lights and Umbra Shelves were gifted but all comments and opinions are honest and genuine. Thank you for supporting the blog partners.

It looks super good, I am surprised how much better I work at my desk than I do on the sofa! Mines in my lounge and not in a room though so enjoy the peace!

I love the Red Candy shelves! Gorgeous. I’m smiling at the thought of your husband telling you not to decorate his ‘man cave’ x

Oh I’m so jealous – your very own space to work! It’s looking wonderful, and it’s making me really want to sort out my own messy desk in our even messier playroom. I particularly love the ampersand light and the fab wallpaper.

That is a cool office. I love everything especially the chandelier because that is one of an amazing art. Office space should be something like that, something that is presentable and motivates you to work harder. It would take someone a lot of time to come up with ideas for an awesome office space, that is why it’s really great that posts like this are available online.

oh jen, your home office looks lovely. It also feels so peaceful and calm…No wonder your productivity has improved. My home office looks so cluttered . That is probably the main reason why I procrastinate… I also have to say that the piece that I prefer is the framed ticket? This is so romantic 🙂 I love it !!!!!!
