How do you make your home look luxurious on a budget? We have some key tips to help you fake it til you make it.

It’s normal to dream of having a luxurious home but feel demoralised when drawing the line and realising how expensive this aspiration is. However, not many long for a pricey house; some care more about their wardrobe, food in the fridge, etc., so should you quit on your dream? You’re alive, and you have all the power in your hands.

If living in a decent, comfy home is no longer fulfilling enough and you want to feel the warmth of luxury the moment you walk through the door, maybe you should prioritise your dream.

Here are some insights from homes that look more high-priced than they actually are.

How to make your home feel more luxurious on a budget

1. Furniture has to have character

A matching furniture suite is no longer a hallmark of superb interior design. Nowadays, it’s all about character, appeal and texture. Decorating using antiques, mainly wooden furniture, is an excellent method to make a home look more valuable. You may blend antiques and current findings to create a genuinely one-of-a-kind room.

Wood is also a safe idea, so why not find a replacement? If you find a reputable distributor, you can have vinyl flooring that looks just as lavish as wood, takes scratches well, and passes the test of time. When decorating with vinyl, fight the desire to use furniture of the same species or tone because this can make a space feel bland.

Instead, aim for pieces with slight colour variation for a more professional and finished effect.

Wall panelling, a method of insulation for period homes, can elevate your room and make its design scream “luxury”.

There are many creative ideas to decorate, from the bathroom to the bedroom. Plus, this decoration can be cheaper than wallpaper, and you can extend it to the ceiling to give it an architectural feel and emphasise the height of the space.

This trick may work well in both contemporary and classic settings, bringing charm and long-lasting character to your area.

2. Lighting has to make a statement

There’s no such thing as a poor home with a chandelier or an expensive house without one. Luckily, you can find cheap chandeliers online or at the thrift shop; it only takes some time and research to find one to your liking.

Styles can vary, so it doesn’t have to be a kitschy pendant light to have a stylish look. Before shopping for one, decide what design you want for your room and what type of chandelier you want. Here are some ideas to inspire you:

  • Contemporary. It has details and textures, and you can call it trendy since it takes styles and ideas from a different era.
  • Waterfall. The crystals in a waterfall chandelier look like falling water and come in various geometric forms, like square and round.
  • Modern. If you like a minimalist look, modern chandeliers are both visually beautiful and valuable. They are geometrical in shape and have little ornamentation.
  • Crystal. The crystals in these chandeliers give a bright and colourful look and are made of lead oxide glass.
  • Hybrid. If you’re not pleased with any of the styles above, you can choose a combination of different ones.

3. Floors must look lavish and be low-maintenance

You can add a striking statement to any interior setting, assuming you properly combine the colours of the walls and floors. Choosing the right floor is not child’s play, and you should consider it an important step, especially when you’re looking to give your home a sumptuous aspect.

However, it’s best to go for a water-resistant floor, especially if you have children or pets.

Please purchase from an authorised and reliable company if you choose to laminate your floors. You don’t want to have your floor damaged from the tiniest drop of water or show signs of wear in the rooms with the most traffic.

Sun fading and discolouration can’t exist in a rich house, and luckily, you can go for flooring laminate that has an excellent price-to-quality ratio, is water-resistant, looks impressive and is easy to clean.

The best part is that if you can’t decide what shade you like the most, you can choose more and install one type of floor in the bedroom, the other in the bathroom, and so on.

Pay attention to other colours in your room. If you want to change the face of your dwelling, choose painting carefully. There must be a balance between tones. For example, you can combine red laminate floors with dark and bright nuances of black and white for the walls and furniture.

Similarly, you can highlight the dark grey floors through soft nuances of green, purple or blue. The types and nuances of laminate floorings are up to you; just avoid mixing too many distinct and striking colours in the rooms.

4. Luxury should take many forms

When it comes to including luxury materials in your house, you don’t have to break the bank to do that. Yes, marble looks magnificent and undoubtedly exudes wealth, but it is not the only option. Everything will do, from adding or replacing home furnishings to replacing your bedding, draperies, and towels.

Here are some tips to bring opulence into your rooms:

  • Add wall art
  • Add neon touches
  • Paint a feature wall
  • Replace your flooring
  • Install smart home technology
  • Update your glass and tableware
  • Refresh doors and windows with specialist paint.

A seemingly expensive home doesn’t have to be expensive

There are many other ways to make a house look posh; it’s overwhelming. You can add touches of high-end materials or metallics or add classics from the thrift shop. Freshening up the flowers and walls is another great option for your home’s decor.

High contrasts are your friend, and lit candles can remove some stress at the end of the day.

Whatever you choose to do, ensure you do it by the book. Don’t underestimate the power of lighting, and ensure it is balanced and properly installed in the right places.

Remember to put passion into the decor of each room, and however you choose to do it, make your home feel like you.
