A Girls Bedroom Design Dilemma: Makeover is complete

One one of my first posts on the blog I discussed the design and decor changes we wanted to make to Miss E’s bedroom. Well the Bedroom Makeover is now pretty much complete and we’ve been living with it for a while. There were two reasons for making the changes; firstly to give her more suitable storage in order to help her be tidier, and secondly to update the room and make it more in keeping with her age. She is just about to turn 8.

In the video below I’ve highlighted a few key aspects of the room that we both like. Storage was a big problem beforehand and the furniture just wasn’t suitable for the job. I designed this layout and particularly the storage so it will be funtional for her whilst she plays in the room, and for me when I need to help tidy. I’m sure you’ll notice how tidy the room looks in the film. I does not normally look like this and there had been a big tidy up before we filmed.

Most items are from IKEA. If you want to know specifics or prices just leave a comment and I’ll do my best to get you the answer.

Well! All I can say is great minds think alike! We are in the process of re organising our sitting room and this was, partly, triggered by one the mums in my baby signing class selling one of the IKEA units that you have used (the one that was vertical and you are now using on it’s side). I got her’s for the amazing price of £10 and then bought another unit plus drawers, doors and boxes. We have both on their side, like yours and it has really opened up the room, hidden away (almost) the toys but has kept them accessable to both our children (aged 3 and 8). I will pop a pick up on my facebook page when it’s all complete!

In the meantime, I think your room make over looks brilliant! I too love the little pots and can picture them in the ‘play area’ under my daughter’s midi bed for all her bits and pieces that end up vanishing up the hoover all the time!

A great post – especially love the video!

I really like the armoire, we are looking for something similar with lots of options for drawers and shelves inside. I can’t find that model on IKEA’s website. Do you remember what the name was? Was it listed under wardrobes, or is it some other kind of closet that you added shelves to? Thank you!
